On the afternoon of May 21, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Vice Chairwoman of Hai Ba Trung District People's Committee, said that she had asked businesses to remove the thumb-shaped check-in symbol in Thong Nhat Park.
Businesses proceed to remove the QR code printed background layer on the thumb check-in icon
"The enterprise installed this symbol without reporting or asking for permission. This morning, the locality coordinated with the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Inspectorate to work with the parties and consolidate the documents for handling," said Ms. Hien.
Discussing the content of using a phone to scan the QR code to link to the light show event that will take place at Thong Nhat Park on June 3, Ms. Hien said that this content has been approved in principle by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports. However, according to regulations, the Hai Ba Trung District People's Committee must review and agree before the event can take place on June 3.
"Currently, we know that the business has contacted the Department of Culture and Information of Hai Ba Trung District but has not received the documents; if the business does not request permission in the near future, it will stop operating. In the immediate future, the district is consolidating the documents to handle related violations," said Ms. Hien, adding that she will provide specific information about the violations of this business in the near future.
The check-in symbol in Thong Nhat Park has been covered with a net after the QR code printed background was removed.
According to the record, on the same afternoon, the thumb-shaped check-in symbol was placed right behind the entrance gate of Thong Nhat Park on Tran Nhan Tong Street (Hai Ba Trung District). This symbol is about 6 - 7 m high, built with an iron frame. After being "whistled" by the authorities, the background layer with the QR code was removed. However, the iron frame system has not been removed, instead, this item has been covered with a layer of mesh.
As reported, on the morning of May 21, social networks were abuzz about the check-in symbol placed in Thong Nhat Park. Upon receiving the information, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports coordinated with the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Ba Trung District and related units to conduct a check on the licensing procedures for the business that placed this symbol.
Previously, this thumb-shaped check-in icon also suddenly appeared at West Lake (Tay Ho District, Hanoi) and was requested to be removed by local authorities on May 14.
