On February 4, in Hanoi, the Central Propaganda and Education Commission coordinated with the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association and Nhan Dan Newspaper to organize a press conference at the beginning of the Spring of At Ty 2025.
Journalism inspires, leads society
Attending and speaking at the press conference, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia stated: In 2024, we have experienced many events and many important issues of the country. Press, radio and television agencies have strongly spread the spirit of optimism, trust, and joyful atmosphere, creating a determined spirit in the political system, among cadres, party members and people, so that our people can confidently enter a new era, an era of striving to develop and become rich and strong for the country.
The Party Central Committee Secretariat assessed that over the past year, press agencies, especially key press agencies, have been very active in informing and propagating political events at home and abroad, in the region and the world, the fight against corruption and negativity; propagating historical events of the country, especially the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding, creating a foundation to continue entering the next 5 years with many new successes, highlighting the theme "The Communist Party of Vietnam - courage, intelligence, prestige, innovation for national independence and socialism"; demonstrating the attention of the leaders of the Party, State, ministries, branches and localities in implementing well social security policies, material and spiritual life of the people - Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia clearly stated and on behalf of the Politburo and the Secretariat, warmly commended the efforts and results of the press in 2024 and especially during the Lunar New Year of At Ty.
Listing some tasks of the press in 2025, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia reminded press agencies to step up propaganda in patriotic emulation, arouse patriotism, self-confidence, self-reliance, national pride, mobilize resources, promote Vietnamese culture to develop the country's economy, culture and society.
Along with that, continue to promote the Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress. This is a very large space for the press to exploit and promote. The press needs to exploit to see the efforts and rise of the country, arouse national pride and self-esteem; clarify theoretical and practical issues to help people, especially those who do not have the conditions to study theory and practice, to learn through the press. In particular, very important factors are ideology, organization, cadres and programs to realize the aspiration of national development.
Press agencies need to develop publications and information channels in many languages to effectively reach international friends, while strengthening cooperation with international media agencies to disseminate official information and fight against false and distorted information about Vietnam. In addition, the press needs to improve the quality of its journalist team, building a team of journalists with strong political will, clear professional ethics and high professional qualifications.
The quality of journalism training must meet the standards and meet the requirements of the new era, not only being good at professional skills, but also having a deep understanding of political theory and practical understanding of social life. Strengthening the training of political theory and professional skills for journalists, especially young reporters, is considered a key task to meet the increasingly high requirements of propaganda work in the new situation - the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department emphasized.
The press actively participates in the digital transformation, exploits the advantages of modern technology to spread official information, fights against wrong and hostile views in cyberspace, contributes to firmly protecting the Party's ideological foundation; develops strongly on digital platforms, takes advantage of social networks as an effective communication channel to quickly and promptly reach all readers, especially young people.
Regarding the implementation of Resolution 18-NQ/TW on streamlining and organizing a streamlined, effective and efficient apparatus, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia commented that recently, press agencies have done well but that is only the first step, there is still a lot of work to do, followed by perfecting the staff in the political system. The press must propagate more widely and strongly, actively participate in social networking platforms; have solutions to overcome themselves. The press not only provides information but also provides knowledge to inspire and guide society. The recent apparatus arrangement is a revolution, and revolutions always have difficulties, the press must take the lead and strengthen confidence for the revolution to succeed.
In addition, the press needs to promote propaganda content about major holidays and important events in 2025 such as: the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's revolutionary press day, the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, the 80th anniversary of the country's founding, etc.
Quoting General Secretary To Lam's speech at the 2024 Golden Hammer and Sickle Press Awards Ceremony: "The country's achievements in nearly 40 years of carrying out the renovation process are great. The new era is opening up a bright future for the nation. The new era also sets new and higher requirements for revolutionary journalism, requiring the press to develop accordingly, grow together with the nation, and be worthy of professional, humane, and modern journalism," Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized: This is the requirement for revolutionary journalism in the coming time, especially in 2025 - the year of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism and many important events of the country.
Support press agencies to stabilize and promote efficiency
According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong, 2024 marks many important milestones in the country's development process, notably the revolution of streamlining the political system's apparatus, along with the implementation of policies and orientations to remove institutional bottlenecks. In particular, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW with the goal of making a breakthrough in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation. These are special milestones, opening a new era with strong motivations for the country to make a breakthrough.
In that context, the press agencies have successfully fulfilled their political tasks, making an important contribution to building consensus in society and the entire political system. The press is not only the voice of the Party, the State and the people, but also the vanguard force protecting the Party's ideological foundation, arousing the aspiration to develop a strong and prosperous Vietnam.
2024 is also a year that marks the efforts of many press agencies in streamlining and streamlining their organizational apparatus. In the process of implementing the press planning, the country has reduced 58 press agencies and about 115 magazines. Many press agencies have changed their governing bodies, some have merged or ceased operations. In implementing Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW, it is expected to continue to reduce 51 more press agencies nationwide. This arrangement demonstrates the strong political determination of the Party and State to improve operational efficiency and ensure the role of press agencies in guiding public opinion.
Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong affirmed: The Ministry of Information and Communications highly appreciates the seriousness and responsibility of press agencies in implementing the streamlining of organizational apparatus. The Ministry has closely coordinated with relevant agencies to promptly submit to competent authorities to issue regulations on the functions, tasks and organizational apparatus of press agencies after the rearrangement, ensuring that these agencies quickly stabilize and promote efficiency.
In 2025, Vietnamese revolutionary press will continue to face many opportunities and challenges, especially fierce competition with cross-border media platforms. Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong suggested that press agencies need to constantly innovate, improve content quality, and focus on solving existing problems in the press field, from press economics to digital transformation. The press needs to maintain its role as an official information channel, orienting public opinion, honestly reflecting social life, while spreading positive values, strengthening people's trust in the Party and State.
Speaking at the conference, General Director of Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Vu Viet Trang said: The summary of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee "Some issues on continuing to innovate and reorganize the apparatus of the political system to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently" is very important and has a great impact on press agencies. For VNA - the governing body of many press agencies, this is a very difficult task. Like many other press agencies, VNA has actively implemented this work. Specifically, VNA has sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Television on ending the operation of VNA Television and transferring tasks and functions to Vietnam Television according to Resolution 18-NQ/TW of the Politburo and Plan 141/KH-BCĐTKNQ18 of the Government on reorganizing and streamlining the apparatus; implementing the Government's direction to develop a Decree on the responsibilities and powers of VNA; restructuring a number of units; adding functions and tasks to develop digital content and provide multimedia information in multiple languages to press agencies.
Starting from January 16, 2025, VNA has provided video information along with multilingual news, photos, and graphics on the website: https://vnanet.vn to provide information to press agencies. Doing this well will contribute to fulfilling the mission of journalism in the digital age, effectively communicating policies on digital platforms. However, the implementation also faces certain difficulties.
To perform this task well, VNA hopes to continue to receive attention and support from the Central Propaganda and Education Commission and the Ministry of Information and Communications in arranging and licensing new units to stabilize work, as well as support and sharing from Vietnam Television in accepting a number of personnel who wish to continue working in the television field. At the same time, VNA hopes that the press agencies that have accompanied VNA will continue to support and accompany VNA so that it can successfully complete its assigned tasks...
