60 years have passed since the Binh Gia victory was recorded in national history as a brilliant and heroic milestone in the resistance war against America.
On November 15, at the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Convention Center, an exchange program to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Binh Gia Victory was organized by the Provincial People's Committee.
Overview of the program celebrating the 60th anniversary of Binh Gia victory.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Dang Minh Thong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province shared: 60 years ago, the Military Commission and the Regional Command decided to launch the first concentrated combat campaign in the Southeast region and Binh Gia - Duc Thanh in Ba Ria province at that time was chosen as the main direction.
The resounding victory in the campaign created a new position and strength, a strong development step for the revolutionary war in the South, and at the same time pushed the US's "special war" strategy to collapse faster. As the late General Secretary Le Duan commented: "From the battle of Bac My Hamlet, the US saw that it could not defeat us, and by the battle of Binh Gia, the US saw that it had lost to us."
The campaign mobilized all local army forces and guerrillas to coordinate combat with the main army and serve the campaign, transporting food, wounded, and weapons.
The heroic images of the past are recreated.
Ba Ria province also focused on logistics, especially food and provisions, ensuring smooth traffic and communication, and preparing safe and convenient hiding places for main force troops.
The Binh Gia victory is recorded in the nation’s history as a brilliant and heroic milestone in the resistance war against the US. The army and people of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province are very proud of their great contributions to the Binh Gia Campaign.
At the program, comrades from the fiery period who fought side by side in the campaign and delegates relived the glorious historical atmosphere of 60 years ago. All shared their pride and passed it on to the next generation in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Beautiful pictures in celebration.
The Binh Gia Campaign has been over for 60 years, and Vietnam has been peacefully unified for nearly half a century. However, this historical milestone remains valuable because of the great sacrifices and contributions, the spirit of determination to fight and win, and the lessons that continue to illuminate the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the present and in the future.
Throughout the program, there were exchanges with historical witnesses, combined with screenings of documentary films and unique theatrical and artistic performances vividly and heroically recreating the Binh Gia Victory - a historical milestone of our army and people 60 years ago.
Recreate old images.
Binh Gia used to belong to Ba Ria province, an area with many waterway and road traffic routes and the enemy deployed many combat bases.
The Binh Gia Campaign took place from the night of December 2, 1964 to January 3, 1965. The campaign ended in victory, eliminating 1,700 enemies from combat, capturing nearly 300 enemies, completely destroying 2 main battalions, 1 armored vehicle squadron and many security companies. In addition, 45 military vehicles, mostly M.113s, were destroyed, and 56 aircraft (mainly helicopters) were shot down or damaged...
Happy reunion.
The victory of the Binh Gia campaign went beyond the scope of the campaign, had strategic significance, opened a new period of the revolutionary war in the South and clearly affirmed the military strength, will and intelligence of the Vietnamese revolution.
