New tourism brand positioning

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Vice Chairwoman of Vung Tau City People's Committee, in 2024, the city welcomed more than 9 million visitors, including about 1.3 million international visitors. Total tourism revenue reached VND9,900 billion, up 73.39% over the same period.

In the first quarter of 2025, total revenue from accommodation and food and beverage reached VND 3,093 billion (accounting for 27.49% of the annual plan), the number of guests staying reached 911,000 (an increase of 32.99% over the same period).

It is expected that in 2025, the tourism - service - trade sectors will continue to play a key role, accounting for 77 - 80% of the total social product value of the whole city. The tourism industry aims to grow by 8 - 10% per year, in which the number of international visitors is expected to grow by about 15% per year.

In the second quarter of 2025 alone, the city is estimated to welcome 1.82 million visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching over VND 3,088 billion.

From in-depth surveys, the representative of the City People's Committee said that in 2025, the prominent tourism trends will focus on six main groups of tourist behaviors, including: The need to travel with family combined with seeking relaxation; the desire to explore new, less crowded destinations; choosing high-class resorts; participating in amusement parks; eco-tourism and tourism products applying smart technology...

Grasping this trend, Vung Tau has quickly adjusted its product and service development orientation, improving quality to suit market needs.

Innovation

“The city has always clearly defined its view that Vung Tau will always be the chosen destination not only for investors, but also for tourists in their journey to find a reliable, friendly, and quality destination,” said Ms. Huong.

In that spirit, the city has launched comprehensive transformation programs towards the model of “green tourism - clean tourism - zero-emission tourism”. Enterprises and tourism businesses in the area have actively responded, building a green service ecosystem, applying renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, developing tourism products associated with environmental protection and community health. This is considered a key direction to improve competitiveness and develop sustainable tourism.

The city is also prioritizing the exploitation and effective promotion of six key tourism product groups, including sea tourism and services associated with the sea; cultural tourism and historical heritage; eco-tourism and nature exploration; health care and intensive resort tourism; culinary tourism and tourism associated with large-scale events and festivals.

Currently, Vung Tau has more than 15,000 accommodation rooms and nearly 1,700 restaurants and eateries operating stably, creating a diverse ecosystem of culinary and accommodation services. One of the highlights is the local specialty Banh Khot, which is being nominated to set an Asian record.

In parallel, open space projects are also being implemented. In particular, Bai Sau Coastal Park (phase I) will be completed and put into operation before April 30, 2025. This is a key ecological project that directly connects to coastal landscape routes and serves community needs.

Towards an international tourist center

In line with the spirit of Resolution 154/NQ-CP of the Government on “Developing Vung Tau City into an international high-quality tourism center”, the city is accelerating a series of key projects: Urban beautification along Thuy Van route, expanding coastal public spaces, developing ecological urban models, and accelerating comprehensive digital transformation in tourism management.

Along with infrastructure, cultural - sports - tourism events are also considered an important driving force to attract tourists. In 2025, the city will organize more than 25 large-scale programs and events. Of which, 14 programs are coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 8 national sports tournaments and 3 socialized programs. Many events are of great significance such as: The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, a series of activities celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army... National sports tournaments such as Roller Sports, Triathlon, Snooker, international marathon, 3x3 U23 basketball tournament, handball tournament, billiards tournament... will also take place throughout the year.

“With the support of the people, the business community and the strong direction from the government, Vung Tau is qualified to affirm its position as one of the leading tourist centers in Vietnam and Southeast Asia,” said Ms. Huong.
