The architectural renovation project of Co May Bridge with the appearance of a "seagull" was completed after 4 years of construction, creating a typical highlight for the important connection position between Ba Ria City and Vung Tau City, officially completed at the end of 2023.
The project was renovated on the existing 258m long, 38m wide bridge on National Highway 51 across the Co May River. The "new coat" for the bridge was approved by the People's Council of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in October 2017 with a total investment capital of nearly 98 billion VND. However, during the implementation process, some additional items arose, so the scale was adjusted to increase the total investment to 115 billion VND.
The project is inspired by the "seagull wings" and is shaped by 500mm diameter steel pipes, bent and linked together with 200mm pipes to form tetrahedral groups to ensure load-bearing capacity. Supporting these two wings is a system of steel pipes, cross-bracing, suspension as well as a foundation and abutment system separate from the existing bridge structure.
In addition, this project also designs two wide walkways on both sides, with railings higher than 1 meter.
There are about 200 color-changing LED lights installed on the bridge frame to create an effect at night while still ensuring illumination for passing vehicles. The existing traffic lighting system is replaced by lighting poles with stylized designs based on the image of the May Grass flower to create a unique impression for the project.
The height of the main space frame is from the foundation to the top of the frame, more than 26m.
The bridgehead on the Ba Ria City side has flower gardens on both sides of the road. This is a parking spot where residents and tourists can stop to relax and take a walk to enjoy the scenery.
According to the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the shape of Co May bridge stylized from "seagull wings" represents the dream of flying high, flying far, rising strongly and the close connection between the two cities, creating a highlight for tourists when coming to the coastal city of Vung Tau.
