iOS 17.3, which Apple has just released for iPhone, comes with a new security feature to better prevent theft. It will prevent bad guys from taking control of your iPhone and accessing anything stored in iCloud as well as other important accounts like banking or email. Instead of using a lock screen password for security, the device theft protection feature will require Face ID or Touch ID to perform certain tasks.
Additionally, the security delay feature also requires Face ID or Touch ID, waiting an hour, and then successfully biometric authentication again before being able to perform sensitive tasks like changing the device passcode, Apple ID password.
According to Apple, the iPhone only activates this security layer when the user is away from "familiar locations such as home or work."
To enable theft protection, go to settings, select Face ID & Passcode. From there, enter your device passcode and enable it.
In addition to the security features, iOS 17.3 introduces a number of other features such as playlist collaboration, which lets you invite friends to join your playlist to add, arrange, or remove songs; hotel AirPlay support that allows streaming content directly to in-room TVs at certain hotels; optimization and collision detection.
To update to iOS 17.3 for iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update and select Update Now or Update Tonight.
