VPF announced the application of VAR in 2 matches in round 4. The first match is the confrontation at Hang Day Stadium between Hanoi FC and Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club (taking place at 7:15 p.m. on December 3). The second match is the confrontation between Hai Phong Club and Cong An Hanoi Club (taking place at 6:00 p.m. on December 4 at Lach Tray Stadium).
In the first 3 rounds of Night Wolf V.League 1-2023/24, 10/20 matches have applied VAR technology. Many VAR interventions have brought fairness, supporting the main referee to make accurate decisions.
Two matches in round 4 of V.League applied VAR technology.
According to statistics, there were 8 situations where the VAR referee suggested the main referee review via the on-field screen (on field review) and then the main referee changed his original decision; 1 situation where the referee still kept his decision after reviewing the situation; in addition, there were 2 situations where VAR advice helped the main referee make a more accurate decision.
Night Wolf V.League 1 – 2023/24 is in the early stages of applying VAR technology and will be under FIFA supervision for 3 consecutive years. Each round of Night Wolf V.League 1-2023/24 can have 2, 3 and a maximum of 4 matches applied.
All VAR room data of deployed matches is sent to FIFA after each round so that experts can monitor and evaluate the VAR operation capacity of the Organizing Committee as well as the Referee Committee. Initially, FIFA has had positive assessments of the VAR operation process at V.League and regularly provides active support to VPF and the Tournament Organizing Committee.
The appearance of VAR in V.League is a good sign. This technology not only helps the referee team feel more secure in the work of managing the match. It also increases the value of trust when accuracy is improved, matches with VAR will be fairer. However, VAR is only a tool to support the referee and certainly VAR cannot end all the controversies that often exist in football.
