Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway was officially put into operation on September 21, 2014, becoming a vital traffic route, actively contributing to promoting the potential for socio-economic development of the provinces in the project area in particular and the Northwest region in general.
The Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway is 265 km long, with a total investment of more than 1.46 billion USD, starting at the intersection between National Highway 2 and National Highway 18 and ending at Duyen Hai Ward (Lao Cai City, Lao Cai Province), passing through 5 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai. According to the design, the Hanoi - Yen Bai section has 4 lanes allowing a maximum design speed of 100 km/h; the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section has 2 lanes and a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
The Hanoi - Lao Cai Expressway project started in the third quarter of 2008 and was completed and put into use on September 21, 2014.
