Camera footage shows two sections of the bridge collapsing into the Ganges River. So far, Indian authorities have not reported any casualties.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an inquiry and asked to identify those responsible for the incident.
The construction of the 3,160-meter-long, four-lane cable-stayed bridge and its approach road, estimated to cost around $210 million, was started by Chief Minister Kumar on February 23, 2014. A portion of the bridge collapsed two years ago. The bridge also suffered some damage in April 2022 due to a storm.
