Completed dozens of new houses
According to the Department of Home Affairs, on the occasion of April 30 this year, the whole province had 28 families of Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, heroes of the Labor in the renovation period, and revolutionary soldiers, who were directly visited and presented gifts by the provincial leaders in coordination with the provincial Military Command. District and commune-level localities also had gifts, organized delegations to visit and encourage families of policy beneficiaries and people with meritorious services during the historic April days.
In addition to the gifts, when visiting families of policy beneficiaries and meritorious people in the area, the provincial leaders expressed their deep gratitude for the great contributions, dedication and sacrifice of generations of meritorious people in the cause of national liberation and unification. They hoped that the families would continue to promote revolutionary traditions and family traditions, encourage their children and grandchildren to study hard, work hard, and continue to join hands to build a rich and beautiful homeland. "The sincere feelings of leaders at all levels on every holiday and New Year are the greatest gifts for my mother and my family. This is a great source of pride for our family," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Gai, the youngest daughter of heroic Vietnamese mother Bui Thi Da (Tan Uyen City).
Another meaningful activity for policy families and meritorious people across the province on the occasion of April 30 this year is that localities in the province promptly completed and handed over 34 new houses to households with housing difficulties. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Hang, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, said that in recent months, when implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses across the province, the department has coordinated with localities in the province to review and make a list, ensuring that all policy families and meritorious people complete their houses before April 30 according to the province's direction. "Localities have been flexible in using capital for repairs and new construction, especially mobilizing socialized resources. Up to now, many households have been handed over houses," said Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Hang.
A typical example is the house of Mrs. Tran Thi Ly, the wife of a martyr, residing in Tan Vinh Hiep ward, Tan Uyen city. The house where Mrs. Ly is living was previously built by the local government. Over time, the house has deteriorated and the Steering Committee for "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" of Tan Uyen city has supported 50 million VND to repair it, helping Mrs. Ly have a decent place to live.
Recently, when provincial and local leaders came to celebrate the house handover ceremony, Ms. Ly was moved and shared: "The care of provincial leaders and local authorities for policy families is very meaningful, thanks to which everyone has a house and a stable life."
Many thoughtful policies
According to statistics, the whole province currently has over 64,000 people with meritorious services recognized and receiving preferential treatment for people with meritorious services to the revolution. Among them, there are 16,858 martyrs; 6,236 wounded and sick soldiers of all ranks; 2,219 heroic Vietnamese mothers (currently 22 mothers are still alive); over 38,800 people with meritorious services to the revolution, resistance activities, and exposure to toxic substances.
The provincial Steering Committee for "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" has completed the construction and repair of 34 houses for meritorious people and policy families before April 30 this year.
Every year, the highlight of the province's care for people with meritorious services is to visit, give gifts, and support families on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27) and the Lunar New Year. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025 alone, the province organized visits and gave gifts to people with meritorious services to the revolution with 63,875 people, with a total cost of nearly 67 billion VND; visited and gave gifts to 18 units inside and outside the province with a total cost of 220 million VND.
In addition to the budget, the local government has also done a good job of mobilizing businesses and philanthropists to provide additional care for families who are unfortunately in difficult circumstances. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025 alone, from socialized sources, the whole province provided additional care for people with meritorious services with about 3.4 billion VND, thanks to which many families had a full Tet.
Activities to take care of housing, support children of meritorious people in employment, education, health care, and award health insurance cards, savings books to meritorious people, and support loans to develop household economy are regularly implemented by the locality. In recent years, Binh Duong has also had its own policies to take care of meritorious people, such as: The Provincial People's Council has issued Resolution No. 17/2020 to increase the level of support for building new and repairing charity houses; additional monthly support for meritorious people is higher than the Government's regulations by 15-30%. Specifically, in 2018, the Provincial People's Council passed Resolution No. 08 and No. 09. According to these two resolutions, the whole province has about 8,000 meritorious people receiving additional monthly support with a total budget of more than 3 billion VND/month; funeral support for some policy beneficiaries in the province with a support level of 20-30 million VND...
Localities in the province also have practical activities to support and care for the lives of policy families and meritorious people, such as coordinating with units, businesses, and philanthropists to provide monthly care and support to heroic Vietnamese mothers and meritorious people in difficult circumstances. Supporting essential items for disadvantaged families such as giving away tables, chairs, altars, wardrobes, televisions, etc. Communes and wards mobilize funds and implement the model of "Meal of Love" at each meritorious family.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Hang, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, said that in recent years, in addition to fully and promptly implementing the provisions of the Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with meritorious services, Binh Duong has also implemented many policies to care for and improve the material and spiritual life of policy beneficiaries. Up to now, the whole province has 99.88% of meritorious people with a living standard of average or higher than that of the residential area; 100% of communes, wards and towns maintain the title of communes and wards doing well in social security work for meritorious people and policy families. |
