Injured in the right hand, 8 candidates took the 10th grade public entrance exam by reading their answers for a supervisor to record, with a tape recorder and surveillance camera.

Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that on the morning of June 5, nearly 96,000 candidates completed procedures to take the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City, of which 461 were absent. The examination councils recorded 8 cases of accidents, with the right hand unable to take notes.

These students were arranged to take the exam in a separate room, with two invigilators, one to help record the test, the other to supervise. The students' test taking process was recorded by audio and video. In addition, one deaf candidate was given a hearing aid during the exam.

Candidates needing special support are from testing locations in districts 3, 10, 12, Go Vap, Thu Duc City, Cu Chi district, Binh Chanh district and Hoc Mon district.

Nguyen Van Thanh, a candidate at the Doan Thi Diem Secondary School in District 3, said he broke his right arm in early May and the cast has not yet been removed. He can move his hand, but not for long. Thanh said he can do Math and English by himself, but needs help with Literature because it requires a lot of writing.

"Having an accident like this, I was worried it would affect my test results. Knowing that there was a supervisor to support me, I felt more secure," Thanh said. The male student put his first choice at Marie Curie School and his second choice at Han Thuyen High School. He said his family and friends encouraged him to try to complete the exam regardless of the result.

Mr. Pham Duc Lap, Deputy Head of this examination site, said that the examination council is recalculating support plans for Thanh, from rearranging the examination room, support staff, and recording and video equipment.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 114,000 junior high school graduates, of whom 96,300 registered to take the public 10th grade exam. Of these, more than 88,000 students took the regular 10th grade exam, about 6,900 students took the specialized exam, and 1,100 students took the integrated 10th grade exam.

The total enrollment target of the city's 108 public high schools is 77,300, with an admission rate of about 80%. Nearly 19,000 candidates who fail the public 10th grade entrance exam can continue studying at private schools, continuing education centers, and vocational schools.

On the morning of June 6, 10th graders in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City took the Literature exam. In the afternoon, they took the Foreign Language exam. On June 7, they took the Math and Specialized Subject exams (for candidates taking the Specialized Class exam).

The city arranged 158 examination sites, including 147 regular examination sites and 11 specialized examination sites. More than 12,300 officials, teachers and 2,300 employees, security guards and police were mobilized to supervise the examinations and perform other duties.
