Apple has built quite a few security features into the iPhone to protect users' personal data. With the new year upon us, it might be worth taking a look at what your ‌iPhone‌ can do and the options you can enable to protect yourself.

Lockdown Mode

There are many malwares used by hackers. Therefore, Apple has developed Lockdown Mode to combat these softwares, especially NSO's Pegasus software. Lockdown Mode gives users the highest level of data security, very suitable for politicians, journalists, officials.

The mechanism of Lockdown Mode is to limit features that are frequently used by users such as: Web browsing, messaging so that malware cannot attack.

To enable this important iPhone security feature, simply go to “Settings”, select “Privacy & Security”, select “Lockdown Mode” and turn the switch on. Not everyone is a target for hackers, but you should still try this feature.

Quick Security Response

Not only iPadOS, macOS, iOS now also has the “rapid security response” feature. With this feature, Apple quickly detects security errors, patches them and releases the latest updates to users. Notably, users do not need to interact or restart the device.

To enable this feature, simply open the “Settings” application, select “General Settings”, select “Software Update”, and select “Automatic Updates”. Even when this feature is turned off, some files in the system are still automatically updated.

Secure and encrypt notes

The third important security feature of the iPhone is “note security and encryption”. The security or locking feature in Notes has been around for a long time, but this is a feature that is of great importance to many people.

With this feature, users can lock notes that are considered important using Face ID, password or Touch ID.

The fastest way to secure notes is to go into the "Notes" application, press and hold the folder you want to lock, select "Lock Note" and you're done.

Passkeys Security

First appeared on iOS 16 and used by Apple instead of passwords. This is a feature that Apple cooperated with Microsoft, Google and met FIDO standards.

Setting up Passkeys is simple. Users simply sign up through an app or website that uses Passkey. A window will pop up asking you to save your password. When returning to that website or app to log in, users simply enter their password or authenticate using Touch ID or Face ID.

Passkeys data is synced via iCloud Keychain and is available to all devices in the Apple ecosystem.

Safety Check

A new but very important security feature on the iPhone is Safety Check. With this feature, users can quickly view contact information that has access to calendars or motorcycle locations. In addition, Safety Check also displays the permissions used by all applications on the device.
