Immediately after being launched on December 26, 2022, the National Press Award "For the cause of developing culture, sports and tourism" received positive responses from journalists and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association across the country. The organizers said they received a total of 1,079 entries. This is a large number of entries, especially for a first-year industry journalism award. Of these, 344 were in print journalism; 299 were in electronic journalism; 89 were in radio; 201 were in television; and 94 were in photojournalism.

The preliminary judging panel was formed with 5 sub-committees: Print, Electronic, Radio, Television and Photojournalism. The preliminary judging panel has been evaluating, discussing and awarding prizes independently since July 25, 2023 and is expected to conclude the preliminary round on August 10, 2023.

The expected number of works selected for the final round by category is as follows: 35 works for print newspapers; 30 works for electronic newspapers; 20 works for radio; 30 works for television; and 15 works for photojournalism.

The Organizing Committee plans to award collective and individual prizes. Accordingly, the collective prize will be awarded to 3 press agencies with many works participating in the contest with high results. Individual prizes include: 1 First prize, 3 Second prizes, 5 Third prizes, 10 Encouragement prizes for each press category.

According to journalist Do Thi Thu Hang, Head of the Professional Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Permanent Vice President of the Preliminary Council, because this is the first year the Award has been held, the time is urgent, the number of works sent to the Award is quite large, about 40% of the number of works sent continuously in the last week of the deadline for receiving entries, causing difficulties for the Secretariat - Synthesis Subcommittee in carefully screening the content of the works, especially radio and television works, leading to some works violating the Rules being included in the judging. The main violations regarding the date of publication, the number of works, the regulation of not accepting works winning the National Press Award... are still being reviewed and eliminated by the Preliminary Subcommittee and the judges.

At the opening ceremony of the preliminary round, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy highly appreciated the large participation of press agencies in many genres, especially photojournalism. Many cultural, sports and tourism activities across the country were vividly reflected in the entries.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in September 2023, in Hanoi.
