At around 3 p.m., a fire broke out in a production area containing a lot of foam and sponge at a mattress factory located in Hamlet 1, Xuan Thoi Thuong Commune. At that time, some people inside the factory used water hoses and mini fire extinguishers to put out the fire but were unsuccessful and ran outside.
A man drove his 7-seater car away to avoid the fire spreading. A few minutes later, the fire flared up violently with many explosions. The column of smoke rose about 20 meters high, spreading to the residential area, causing panic among many residents.
Several fire trucks and more than 20 firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters used hoses to spray water from multiple directions outside the factory to prevent the fire from spreading. Pumps were also used to pump water from a nearby canal to put out the fire.
