Luong Xuan Truong continues to reveal untold stories about his career journey in his own podcast on social media. In the latest sharing of the former Hoang Anh Gia Lai player, fans know part of the reason why he is always considered physically weak.
Had heart disease
"In the past, I had problems related to my heart. I discovered this problem when I was a young player of 16-17 years old. For example, when I accidentally made a move that caused my body to suddenly stop, I would fall into a state of "palpitations" and my heart rate would double. Later, I learned that this was a phenomenon of supraventricular tachycardia, a type of arrhythmia symptom ," Xuan Truong revealed.

The midfielder, born in 1995, discussed with coach Guillaume Graechen and the medical team at HAGL Club to find a solution. However, even when he went to the hospital, the doctor did not detect the problem. Xuan Truong's cardiovascular test results were still normal.
"Usually, athletes with cardiovascular problems will be instructed to stop all sports activities. I was very afraid that if the teachers found out, they would not let me play football anymore or I would be expelled from the academy, so I decided to hide it. Usually when I fell into that state during practice, I would ask to go to the bathroom. Many days I went to the bathroom and just lay on the floor. Sometimes my heart rate decreased, sometimes it did not decrease and I had to maintain that until the end of the practice session," Xuan Truong recounted.
The player who is currently playing for Hai Phong Club said that when he went to Korea to play for Incheon United, his heart problem showed signs of getting worse. After talking about this with Incheon United's medical specialist, Xuan Truong was immediately taken to the hospital.
"When I got to the hospital, I was taken to the emergency room. I chose not to lie down but to sit because I was afraid that if I lay down, the rapid heartbeat would disappear and the doctors would not be able to detect this symptom. Luckily, the doctors discovered it. I had to have laparoscopic surgery to completely treat it," Xuan Truong recalled.
Xuan Truong is not a player with good physical strength. Although he has completely solved his heart problem, this midfielder has not improved much in his inherent weakness. In addition, injuries have also made Xuan Truong's physical condition not good. This player finds it difficult to play at high intensity for enough matches and in many consecutive matches.
Busy signing a contract, got scolded by coach Miura
Another story related to Xuan Truong's playing abroad is that he was scolded by coach Toshiya Miura - who was then leading the U23 Vietnam team - in front of the whole team.

The first time Xuan Truong went abroad was when he joined Incheon United (South Korea) on loan from HAGL in 2016. The Korean team sent a representative to Vietnam to sign a contract and conduct a medical examination for the midfielder. That was also the time when the U23 Vietnam team - including Xuan Truong - gathered in Ho Chi Minh City.
"That afternoon, the whole team had a practice session at Thong Nhat Stadium. That afternoon, I went to a press conference, signed a contract, and had a medical examination to complete the necessary procedures. The schedule was so packed that I didn't even have time for lunch. After finishing, I went straight to the practice field.
I was about 10-15 minutes late. Then I was called out and scolded by Coach Miura. He said: “I don’t care where you go or what you do, which team you sign a contract with, in Japan or Korea. I don’t care. I don’t agree with you being late for practice like this.” That was also the rare time in my career that I was scolded harshly in front of the whole team, and it was also the first time I was late for a practice session,” Xuan Truong recounted.
Xuan Truong was still allowed to practice with the team after the incident that day. He was also on the list of U23 Vietnam to participate in the 2016 U23 Asian Cup finals.
