On July 29, the Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security directed local traffic police forces to step up inspections and ensure railway traffic safety and order after a railway accident killed two people and injured three others in Dong Nai.
The task is to strictly handle acts of non-compliance with regulations when crossing level crossings, violations of railway traffic safety corridors; review unsafe level crossings and propose solutions.
At the same time, the national traffic police will increase inspection and strictly handle acts that cause railway accidents at level crossings, self-opened paths, areas without barriers, and dangerous locations.
Violations that are focused on being handled include: Crossing a level crossing when the red light is on; not obeying the commands and instructions of traffic signs and road markings when crossing a level crossing; stopping, parking, or making a U-turn within the level crossing; pedestrians violating the railway's width limits...
For violations of railway infrastructure protection and railway traffic safety corridors, the Traffic Police Department will recommend that the railway industry and local authorities install barriers, signal lights, etc. to limit accidents.
Previously, at around 9:00 p.m. on July 28, a crossing guard closed Pham Van Thuan Street (Thong Nhat Ward, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai) to welcome a train from the North to the South. At that time, a pickup truck driven by a man carrying a woman and two children came out of the alley. The car drove to the railway intersection to enter Pham Van Thuan Street and was hit by a train.
The accident caused the car to veer off the sidewalk and hit a worker who was cleaning up trash, killing him instantly. A young boy in the car fell onto the road and did not survive. The driver and two other people were seriously injured.
At the scene, the front of the pickup truck was deformed, many pieces of the vehicle were scattered far away, causing some nearby pedestrians to panic and try to escape.
The Traffic Police Department said that the direction of the car moving from the residential road parallel to the railway towards Pham Van Thuan street had no barrier. When the train was approaching, the guard on duty lowered the barrier and blew the whistle, but the car still drove in.
