With the view that each Great Solidarity House is built with the spirit of solidarity and the heart of the whole society, the Fatherland Front at all levels of Bac Kan province has consulted and assigned specific responsibilities to member organizations to mobilize cadres, members, union members and local people to participate in contributing their efforts to help the poor settle down and make a living.
In August 2024, Mr. Hoan Xuan Hung's family - a poor household with extremely difficult circumstances in Cao Ky commune (Cho Moi district) was handed over a Great Solidarity house by the Mobilization Committee of the "For the Poor" Fund of Bac Kan province. In the new, spacious house that meets the "3 hard" criteria, Mr. Hung and his family members are very excited because from now on, the whole family will not have to worry every time the rainy and stormy season comes.
Despite many economic difficulties, when they heard that their family had received support from the “For the Poor” Fund to build a Great Solidarity House, Mr. Hung and his wife were determined to match their resources and borrow more from the Social Policy Bank to build a solid level 4 house to replace the temporary house that had been degraded for many years. Having a stable place to live, the couple was given more motivation to develop their economy and gradually escape poverty.
Also thanks to the support from the “For the Poor” Fund of Bac Kan province, Mr. Hoang Van Pham’s family in Na Vai village, Bang Thanh commune (Pac Nam district) was able to build a solid house. Mr. Pham shared, “Previously, due to difficult economic circumstances, my family had to live in a temporary house made of mixed wood that had been degraded for many years but we could not afford to repair it. With the attention of the local government and Fatherland Front, my family has now built a new, more spacious and comfortable house. My family thanks the Party, the State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front.”
These are just two of thousands of solidarity shelters that Bac Kan province has supported to build for poor households in recent years. Chairwoman of the Bac Kan Provincial Fatherland Front Committee Do Thi Minh Hoa said that in implementing support for housing construction for poor and near-poor households, the Fatherland Front at all levels has focused on mobilizing organizations and individuals to participate in supporting the "For the Poor" Fund, coordinating with the People's Committee at the same level to review the list of poor and near-poor households in need of housing construction to proactively plan construction and repair. Not only directly supporting funding, the Fatherland Front at all levels has coordinated with the government and mass organizations to mobilize people to help with labor days and materials for poor households to build new houses. With this effective approach, many poor households with difficult housing circumstances have built and renovated new houses with an amount of money many times larger than the support. From various sources, the whole Bac Kan province has had more than 2,200 poor and near-poor households supported to repair and build new safe houses to "settle down and make a living", contributing to poverty reduction, ensuring social security and promoting socio-economic development.
However, the results of the housing support program for poor households from 2021-2023 have not met expectations. According to statistics, the province still has over 18,000 poor households and nearly 7,500 near-poor households. Of which, according to housing criteria, there are 7,266 poor households and 937 near-poor households lacking in housing quality; 2,878 poor households and 215 near-poor households lacking in housing area.
According to Ms. Do Thi Minh Hoa, in response to the emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses launched by the Prime Minister at the end of July 2024, the Standing Committee of Bac Kan Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 45 to strengthen leadership and direction in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households with housing difficulties. Bac Kan province aims to complete the elimination of 2,000 temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households by the end of 2025 out of a total of 11,296 poor and near-poor households lacking housing area and quality.
