In the northern mountainous region, while trekking, mountain climbing, and cloud hunting have become very famous and attractive to tourists every year, ziplining and canyoning are still very new. Recently, the eastern slope of Tam Dao in Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen provinces has emerged as an ideal tourist destination for such outdoor adventure activities. More specifically, Dai Tu district with about 10 communes along the foot of Tam Dao mountain range has had several farmstays, homestays, etc. in recent years, which are weekend destinations for tourists who love to challenge themselves.
The highest peak of the Tam Dao mountain range is located on the border of Tam Dao district (Vinh Phuc) and Dai Tu district (Thai Nguyen), with an absolute height of 1,597 m. Dai Tu terrain is not too high compared to places like Lao Cai, Ha Giang... but there are many large waterfalls hidden deep in the forests and midland tea fields, suitable for developing moderate adventure tourism for beginners.

From Hanoi, visitors come to Dom Dom farm located in Vang village, Quan Chu town, Dai Tu district, only about 2 hours drive from Hanoi. This is one of the accommodations for visitors who want to experience the outdoors such as picnicking, trekking, ziplining, canyoning in Thai Nguyen.
On the first day, visitors have light exploration activities such as walking, camping by the stream, enjoying the farm's infinity pool with a view of Tam Dao mountain. To participate in zipline and canyoning on the second day, visitors must have a practice session to familiarize themselves with the equipment right at the farm's training ground with the guides and adventure sports experts of Rope Team Vietnam.

Before going, visitors should wear sweat-absorbent clothes, high socks and shoes with grippy soles and good drainage to wade through streams and forests, bring insect repellent and some snacks to recharge on the way.

Dong Tien Waterfall is located in Ky Phu commune, Dai Tu district, on the eastern slope of Tam Dao. The waterfall is located deep in the forest of Tam Dao National Park, not many tourists know about it, mainly only local people who exploit tea know the way.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thuc, co-founder of Thai Nguyen Adventure, to reach the waterfall, visitors must walk about 5 km across midland tea fields, through the Bang Lung area which used to be lush green tea hills but is now abandoned, with tea trees up to 3-4m high.

Fairy Cave is a cluster of 3 consecutive waterfalls with the first level located on the top of 8m high (275m above sea level), pouring down like a white silk strip across the deep green forest. The second level of the waterfall is 15m high, standing out with a protruding stone dome, the waterfall flows strongly and creates a nearly 10m deep lake, looking down from above like a hidden gem created by nature over millions of years.

The last waterfall is about 3m high, although smaller and lower, it also has its own beauty with one side of the high cliff always having water drops falling continuously creating a magical rain curtain, the other side of the large lake for visitors to enjoy bathing, SUP rowing...

At the first waterfall level, visitors experience canyoning, the second level is a combination of zipline and canyoning and the last waterfall level ends with an exciting waterfall jump. At each starting point of the waterfall, there are guides and experts to guide and ensure the safety of visitors.

Ms. Anh Tram, a tourist from Hanoi who challenged herself with canyoning at Dong Tien waterfall for the first time, said: “Standing on top of the waterfall and looking down is very exciting and adventurous, the waterfall is foaming white and the wall is almost vertical but I still have to be the one to actively hold the rope to go down. This is a challenge that makes you nervous and scared but still have the confidence to complete the challenge of overcoming yourself.”
A day at Dong Tien waterfall is not only a journey of discovery, experiencing the feeling of being immersed in beautiful nature but also a trip to challenge your endurance and limits.
