In just 3 days, Nong Anh Tuan will officially put on his soldier's uniform, becoming a new recruit of the 852nd Regiment (Na Ri - Hoa An - Cao Bang). This is a goal he has cherished for a long time.

In August 2023, immediately after receiving his diploma with a good grade in Oriental Studies from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Anh Tuan immediately applied to volunteer for military service.

"I want to contribute to the Fatherland," Tuan shared about the reason for writing his application to join the army and confided that his patriotism had grown with him through each page of history books and each poem.

The poem that this young man from Cao Bang loves the most is: 'No one remembers their faces or names/But they have created the Country' - in the poem Country by Nguyen Khoa Diem. Tuan always longs to contribute a small part to serve the country.

In 2018, Tuan applied for admission to the Political Officer School but failed. A year later, he decided to retake the exam, but luck once again failed to smile.

Putting aside his dream of joining the Vietnam People's Army, Tuan studied Oriental Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).

"I have waited for 4 years of university. I don't want to miss the opportunity again. Luckily, my application to volunteer for military service was approved," Tuan happily said.

For him, joining the army is not a compulsory obligation, it is a sacred responsibility that every young person should fulfill. It is an honor to contribute to the cause of building and protecting the country of the Party and the entire nation.

According to the plan, on the morning of February 25, Tuan and his teammates will participate in the military handover ceremony of Cao Bang province, entering a 2-year journey of serving in the military, wearing the uniform they have longed for. For Tuan, participating in studying and training in the military not only helps young people improve their knowledge and skills but also builds independence and high discipline.

Despite being older than his peers who joined the army this year, Anh Tuan still feels very confident that he has enough knowledge and skills after graduating from the Faculty of Humanities. He even believes that a university degree will help him a lot in his military journey.

Before joining the army, Anh Tuan prepared himself to be in good health and in a comfortable spirit. He received great support and encouragement from his family. "I know that the 2 years ahead will have many difficulties and challenges, but I will try my best to complete all assigned tasks," the new soldier shared.

When asked what Anh Tuan regrets the most at the moment, he said that joining the army was always part of the plan, everything was carefully arranged so there was nothing to regret. The only thing is, when joining the army, he will miss basketball.

During his 4 years at university, besides studying, Anh Tuan was also passionate about many different sports, most notably basketball. The girls in the school nicknamed Anh Tuan “the basketball god” because of his sunny smile and scholarly face.

Tuan is a core member of the basketball club at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, actively participating in many tournaments for students. Tuan revealed: “Playing basketball helps me stay in good shape and increase my alertness. This will be useful for me when I join the army.”

Although he knows that when he joins the army, he won't be able to play basketball as much as before, Anh Tuan is always smiling and optimistic, ready to play soccer and volleyball with his new teammates in the barracks to fill his basketball nostalgia.

The young man born in 2000 also revealed that after completing 2 years of military service, he will continue to register to participate in the selection to become a professional soldier.

Proudly talking about his eldest son, Mr. Nong Minh Thang - Anh Tuan's father said that Tuan's decision to volunteer for military service was the pride of the whole family. As a parent, he always supported all of his son's decisions. He only wished for his son to be healthy and determined to achieve good results.
