Receiving the US-APEC Business Alliance delegation on the afternoon of November 14 (local time), in Lima (Peru), on the occasion of attending the APEC High-Level Week, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam is constantly improving its investment and business environment in a clear, transparent, stable manner, in line with international practices to attract investment, including US businesses with three main pillars: Deep and open reform; Protecting business interests and Developing new economic drivers.
The US-APEC Business Alliance is an initiative coordinated by a US-based industry association that has been involved in APEC for many years.
Speaking, representatives of businesses thanked the President for taking the time to meet them, affirming that the Vietnam-US relationship plays a very important role for the US business community. Referring to specific issues, businesses said that a number of newly issued laws or those in the drafting process have been consulted by Vietnamese agencies and units with businesses, including foreign businesses, including US businesses, which is very valuable. The drafted or newly issued laws bring benefits to the people, creating favorable conditions for businesses; many issues are determined to be implemented by the Government, providing a clear roadmap of mechanisms and policies for business operations.
Representatives of enterprises also pledged to continue expanding production, business, and innovating operations; at the same time, they made specific recommendations and proposals for industries and fields that enterprises produce and do business in Vietnam such as pharmaceuticals, insurance, digital transformation, banking and finance, etc. Enterprises also hope to receive attention from the President, the Government, ministries and branches to effectively carry out production and business in Vietnam.
Speaking at the reception, President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure to receive the US-APEC Business Alliance; emphasizing that this event with the participation of representatives of the US Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and senior leaders of more than 10 leading US businesses demonstrated the interest of US investors in Vietnam.
The President assessed that the cooperation between Vietnam and the United States has continuously expanded and developed remarkably after nearly 3 decades of normalizing relations and more than 1 year of upgrading relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This relationship has continuously developed based on the foundation of sincerity, trust and responsibility, with sympathy, sharing and mutual respect, meeting the aspirations of the people of both countries.
The President pointed out that the two sides have overcome many differences and achieved fundamental principles for bilateral relations, as affirmed in the Vietnam-US Joint Vision Statement when the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong officially visited the United States in 2015, which emphasized respect for “each other’s political institutions, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity”, and at the same time, the US leadership affirmed support for a “strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous” Vietnam.
Based on the common perception and orientation in the relationship between the two countries, the President said that Vietnam considers the United States a partner of strategic importance and believes in the development opportunities of the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; thereby realizing the aspirations of the people of the two countries for a bright and dynamic future, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and around the world.
Pointing out that Vietnam is entering a new era with great potential and will continue to carry out important reforms, strengthen international integration and promote sustainable development, the President affirmed that Vietnam is constantly improving its investment and business environment in a clear, transparent, stable and consistent manner with international practices to attract investment, including US businesses with three main pillars: Deep and open reform; Protecting business interests and Developing new economic drivers.
In the context of global economic transformation, technology and sustainable development will be two of the core factors shaping the future of the world economy, the President said, Vietnam wishes to cooperate closely with US and APEC businesses in the fields of high technology and innovation, renewable energy and green development.
The President stated that Vietnam welcomes US businesses to invest in the fields of artificial intelligence; big data; biotechnology; establishing research and development centers; and financial technology. On the other hand, Vietnam aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and currently has policies to encourage and attract investment in the renewable energy sector, including solar energy, wind energy, and energy storage technology.
The President believes that, with the spirit of cooperation and belief in common development potential, the economic relationship between Vietnam and US businesses, as well as the APEC region, will continue to develop strongly.
