Crime is still on the rise
On the afternoon of November 21, the National Assembly continued to discuss in the hall the work reports of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy; crime prevention and control and law violations; execution of judgments; and corruption prevention and control in 2023.
Through studying the Government's report on crime prevention and law violation work in 2023, delegate Nguyen Huu Thong (Binh Thuan delegation) highly appreciated the Government's implementation of many solutions.
However, he said that despite efforts, overall crime is still increasing in terms of the number of cases, deaths and property damage, including drug-related crimes, which are issues that voters and people are very concerned about.
Delegate Nguyen Huu Thong cited that the illegal use of drugs, especially synthetic drugs, at business establishments with accommodation service conditions is happening in many localities. Some types of drugs have appeared, disguised as electronic cigarettes, drinks, and food, causing many harmful effects to users, especially teenagers.
From this situation, delegates suggested that the Government and ministries and branches need to evaluate and propose fundamental solutions to resolve and prevent this type of crime in the coming time.

Delegate Do Ngoc Thinh (Khanh Hoa delegation) said that the socio-economic situation is developing very quickly and strongly, the more the economy develops, the more economic conflicts and disputes are inevitable, including violations of the law and crimes.
Mr. Thinh acknowledged the efforts in crime prevention, prosecution and trial, creating trust among the people, voters, trust in the law, in justice and further, trust in the regime.
"The efforts of current agencies are commendable but have not yet met the country's development requirements and established solid trust with the people," said Mr. Thinh.
According to the delegate, the fight against corruption and negative practices is receiving attention from our Party and State, has achieved certain results, and the control sector has actively participated in this fight. However, the fight against corruption crimes in the judicial sector is an issue of great concern to the National Assembly, voters, and public opinion.
The report includes case data and the number of defendants prosecuted by the Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agencies. The Supreme People's Procuracy has also prosecuted defendants who are civil servants in the Procuracy for bribery.
"As long as crime exists, we must continue to fight it."
Speaking to explain and clarify a number of issues raised by National Assembly deputies at the meeting hall, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy Le Minh Tri expressed his gratitude and, on behalf of the People's Procuracy, fully accepted the opinions, suggestions, proposals and recommendations for the Procuracy in performing its functions and tasks.
“We will continue to promote what we have achieved, and we will focus on investing in our shortcomings to innovate and improve our leadership and management, contributing to increasingly meeting the requirements of the Party, the laws of the National Assembly as well as the wishes of the delegates,” Mr. Tri affirmed.
Through the statements of the National Assembly Deputies, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy explained the concerns about why the more we fight and combat crime, the more law violations and crimes continue to increase?
Mr. Tri said that there are many causes for this problem. Specifically, Mr. Tri said that with crimes such as corruption, drugs, etc., there are many hidden crimes. If we fight against this type of crime, we will uncover more crimes.

However, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy affirmed that, compared to before, corruption crimes have decreased, but how much has decreased needs to be further evaluated.
Another reason, according to Mr. Tri, is that there are crimes that have occurred in the past, and now we are actively clarifying them to use all methods to recover assets for the State and punish the ringleaders.
"As long as crime still exists, we must continue to fight it," Mr. Tri emphasized, adding that to prevent crime from the root, one of the solutions is to pay attention, value and focus on prevention work so that we can proactively prevent it in a timely manner.

Explaining further, Minister of Public Security To Lam shared that since the beginning of 2023, the world and regional situation has been very complicated, deeply affecting the domestic situation, along with the difficulties accumulated during the Covid-19 pandemic, which have created more causes and conditions for crimes and law violations than in previous years.
The Minister expressed that with the huge amount of work that the authorities have to deal with in 2023, spanning many areas of social life, it is inevitable that there will be shortcomings and limitations. At the same time, clarify the causes of these shortcomings and limitations.
Firstly, the group of causes belongs to the subjective nature of the authorities such as the problem of implementing solutions to prevent and combat crimes and law violations; violations in investigating and handling crimes; coordination between authorities; spirit and responsibility in performing tasks, with some cases of wrongdoing, negativity, and law violations.
Second, the difficulties and obstacles in terms of law and policy mechanisms as stated in the report.
Third, difficulties in resources in performing tasks of preventing and combating crime and law violations.
According to the Minister of Public Security, some of the existing problems, difficulties and obstacles mentioned above can be resolved immediately, but others will also take time.
Therefore, the Government and the Ministry of Public Security accept the opinions and recommendations of the National Assembly deputies to continue to promote the implementation of crime prevention and control, contributing to building a healthy, orderly and disciplined society, ensuring a peaceful, happy and safe life for the people .
