On June 21, at the Centralworld shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand, Central Retail held the opening ceremony of the "Promotion event for lychees from Vietnam."

This year is the 7th year Central Retail has introduced lychee in Thailand, helping Vietnamese lychee become more and more familiar to Thai consumers.

Attending the ceremony were Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung; Mr. Le Huu Phuc, Commercial Counselor, Vietnam Trade Office in Thailand; and the leadership of Central Retail Corporation.

At the event, Central Retail introduced to Thai consumers fresh lychees from Vietnam, branded with full GlobalGAP certification information, geographical indication stamps, labels, etc.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung expressed his joy at seeing high-quality Vietnamese lychee products introduced and promoted in Thailand; he believes that the quality of Vietnamese products meets the needs of Thai consumers.

Ambassador Pham Viet Hung emphasized that the lychee promotion event demonstrates the efforts of Central Retail together with Vietnamese agencies in promoting Vietnamese products in the Thai market, contributing to increasing Vietnam's exports to Thailand.

Emphasizing that Vietnam and Thailand are each other's major trade partners, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung said that facilitating Vietnam's exports to Thailand is very important, aiming to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 25 billion USD by 2025.

Ms. Jariya Chirathivat, Deputy General Director of Operations and Business Development of Central Group, said that the Tops supermarket chain, a business unit under Central Retail Corporation, organized a promotional event for lychees from Vietnam, lasting from mid-June to early July at 32 Tops Food Hall and Tops Market stores across Thailand to introduce high-quality Vietnamese lychees to Thai consumers. This is the 7th consecutive year that Tops has promoted Vietnamese lychees in Thailand.

Fresh lychees reach Thai consumers

This year, despite the lychee purchase price being higher than last year, Central Retail kept the selling price at 299 baht (about 200,000 VND)/kg, thereby creating conditions for Thai consumers to shop, experience and actively support Vietnamese lychees, contributing to building the brand for Vietnamese lychees in the international market.

With the goal of maintaining the promotion of Vietnamese lychee and creating trust for Thai consumers, Mr. Paul Le, Vice President of Central Retail Group in Vietnam, emphasized that when knowing that Vietnam has good products that can be brought to the world like lychee today, Central Retail strives to introduce those products to Thai and international customers.

To successfully export lychees to the Thai market, Central Retail selected the best quality lychees, then adjusted the packaging and cold storage methods to best suit the export market.

Mr. Paul Le assessed that with increasingly improved cold storage and packaging management, Vietnamese lychees will soon be exported to many countries around the world. Particularly in the Thai market, Central Retail has successfully exported fresh lychees to Thailand since 2017. Thai people often wait for Vietnamese lychees to be in season so they can enjoy the best quality lychees in the world.

The event attracted the attention of Thai consumers.

Mr. Le Huu Phuc, Vietnam Trade Counselor in Thailand, said that in order to fulfill the commitment between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Central Group, every year there is a program to bring Vietnamese goods to the shelves of Central's Tops supermarket to introduce to customers. This year, Vietnam's lychee output has decreased and the price is also more expensive than previous years.

Therefore, the Vietnam Trade Office in Thailand highly appreciates the efforts of Central Group in introducing Vietnamese lychees in Thailand, contributing to making Thai customers increasingly familiar with Vietnamese fruits.

Besides lychee, in the future, the Vietnam Trade Office in Thailand will cooperate to try to introduce more Vietnamese flavors in Thailand such as avocado, rambutan or passion fruit.
