Provincial People's Committee directs to ensure safe water supply, respond to drought risks

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province requested units managing and operating clean water supply systems in the area to organize propaganda and guide people and customers to use water economically and safely.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Bao Ha has just signed a document on strengthening solutions to ensure safe water supply to cope with the risk of drought, water shortage, and saltwater intrusion.

For many years, people in residential group 8, Dau Lieu ward (Hong Linh town) have had to use unsafe well water and stream water, affecting their daily lives.

Implementing the Prime Minister's telegram and the direction of the Ministry of Construction on strengthening solutions to ensure safe water supply to cope with the risk of drought, water shortage and saltwater intrusion, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested provincial departments, branches and sectors; People's Committees of districts, cities and towns and relevant agencies and units according to their functions and tasks to well implement related contents.

Accordingly, it is necessary to continue to seriously implement the assigned tasks in Official Dispatch No. 02/CD-UBND dated January 23, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee Chairman on proactively responding to the risk of drought, water shortage, and saltwater intrusion; proactively study the content of the proposal of the Ministry of Construction in Official Dispatch No. 460/BXD-HTKT dated January 26, 2024 to implement in accordance with regulations.

The Department of Construction shall preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and localities to strengthen state management of water supply; guide units managing and operating clean water supply systems to establish and implement plans to ensure safe water supply and risk management. At the same time, inspect and guide units managing and operating clean water supply systems to have solutions on: water source reserve; connection and regulation between water supply systems managed by the unit; construction of sedimentation profiles and water reserve tanks on the water supply system.

The People's Committees of districts, cities and towns organize propaganda and guide people to protect water sources and water supply works; use water economically and effectively, especially during peak periods and the dry season. Coordinate with organizations and units managing and operating clean water supply systems in organizing drills to be ready to respond to incidents of drought, saltwater intrusion and loss of security and safety of water supply.

Units managing and operating clean water supply systems in the province shall establish and implement plans to ensure safe water supply and risk management. Proactively research and implement solutions on: water resource reserve; connection, enhancing the regulatory capacity between water supply systems under the management unit; building sedimentation profiles and water reserve tanks in the water supply system. Develop procedures and organize drills to be ready to respond to incidents of drought, saltwater intrusion and loss of security and safety of water supply. Organize propaganda and guidance for people and customers to use water economically and safely; reuse water sources; reserve clean water, especially during peak periods and dry seasons.
