For many years, people in Trung Loc and Khanh Vinh Yen communes (Can Loc district, Ha Tinh) living along the banks of the Dap Dinh river have always been worried about diseases due to lack of clean water and have to use river water for daily activities. |

According to local people, the area along the Dap Dinh River through Trung Loc Commune is where domestic wastewater and wastewater from livestock farms in the area are discharged, with a very high risk of pollution. However, due to the lack of a clean water system, hundreds of households here have to use this river water for daily activities and bathing. |

“We know that river water is dirty and at risk of causing illness, but we still have to use it because there is no alternative source of water. Many families have drilled wells, but they are heavily contaminated with alum. Some people have built tanks to collect rainwater, but it is not enough for use,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu (born in 1960, residing in Dong Kim village, Trung Loc commune). |

According to the people, 2 years ago they registered to install a clean water system but until now it has not been installed. To have water to use, the households installed wells in the middle of the river, inside they used sand and gravel to manually filter, then pumped through the pipeline to the tank for use. |

Mr. Pham Quoc Dat - Chairman of Trung Loc Commune People's Committee said that because there is no centralized water supply project or clean water system in the area, local people mainly use alum-contaminated well water, rainwater and canal, river and lake water for daily activities. |

"Before there was a centralized clean water project phase 2 connecting from My Loc commune, we asked for people's opinions and they agreed, but until now the project has not been implemented so we don't know when people will have clean water to use," said Mr. Dat. |

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoan - Vice Chairman of Kim Song Truong Commune People's Committee said that the locality has 4 villages with clean water, while 10 villages with thousands of households still have to use water for bathing, washing, and daily activities from Nha Le River. "The water source from Nha Le River is not guaranteed, so in addition to rainwater, people only know how to use river water. The locality and people really hope to soon have a clean water system to use with peace of mind, ensuring environmental hygiene and quality of life", Mr. Hoan informed. |

The district has sought many solutions and submitted proposals to the Provincial People's Committee to solve the problem of clean water for the people as soon as possible,” said the leader of the People's Committee of Can Loc district.
