In the 2024-2025 school year, the primary school admissions in Ho Chi Minh City have many new features, such as all operations are done online, using geographic maps (GIS) to allocate study places for students, replacing the criteria of "permanent residence" with current residence... to create maximum convenience for parents. However, due to the large student population, each locality has a different way of doing things, which still makes parents worried.
Excited like waiting for... lottery results
For nearly a week, Ms. Phan Huong (residing in Tan Phong Ward, District 7) has been going to the city's primary school admissions website at https://tuyensinhdaucap.hcm.edu.vn every day to look up the results of her child's first grade placement. Ms. Huong said that at many times, when looking up, the system responded "the identification code does not exist" even though the parent entered the correct identification code and date of birth of the child.
Similarly, Mr. Minh Hai (residing in Tan Phu district) expressed: “I saw that other districts had the first round of enrollment results, so I went to the city's primary enrollment website to look up information. When I saw that there were no results for the allocation of places, I contacted the teacher at my child's kindergarten to ask about the situation, and the teacher instructed that if the city's system had an error, parents could look it up at another address: http://tphochiminh.tsdc.vnedu.vn/search”. Although the enrollment results were looked up via the new link provided by the teacher, parents were still worried because they did not know if the enrollment results on the two websites were different or not.
In another case, a parent (living in District 4) informed that although he had received a message from the District Department of Education and Training announcing the results of his child's first round of enrollment, when accessing the city's primary enrollment page, the enrollment results were still not available. Because the local education officer reminded parents to confirm their enrollment online on the city's enrollment page before going to the school they were admitted to submit their application in person, the parent had to continue waiting for the results from the city's enrollment system.
Regarding the search for admission results, Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that currently, in addition to the city's general admission information system, some districts and counties have deployed their own local admission pages to regularly update information for local people. "Earlier this week, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested localities to synchronize admission results on the city's general admission system and the local admission page. Therefore, parents can rest assured to look up results through many information channels because it still ensures the accuracy and confidentiality of students' personal information," a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training affirmed. According to regulations, after receiving admission results, parents must confirm online admission on the city's admission page, then submit paper applications to the school they have been admitted to. Those who do not confirm admission after receiving the first round of admission results will continue to participate in the second round of admission at schools that still have quotas to receive students.
Priority to study near residence
Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu said that one of the new points of this year's primary school enrollment is to expand the scope of application of the geographic information system (abbreviated as GIS map) to support enrollment in Thu Duc City and 21 districts in the city. Accordingly, the allocation of students to schools is carried out on the basis of prioritizing students to study at schools near their place of residence, however, depending on the actual situation in the locality, it may be considered not to be divided according to the administrative boundaries of the ward. For cases where parents of students have difficulty or are not familiar with online operations, the Department of Education and Training has developed a plan to support people in registering for enrollment.
Currently, one of the reasons that makes parents worried is that the announcement time of the first round of admission results in each locality is not the same. In addition, due to the large number of visitors, at many times, the information lookup system has errors, parents of students click to confirm admission but the system does not display the confirmation information, making parents feel uneasy. The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that they will receive comments from people to perfect the lookup software, creating maximum conditions for parents of students.
Regarding the second round of admission plan, a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed that, based on the list of units that have not recruited enough students compared to the assigned quota, the Steering Committee for Primary Admissions of Thu Duc City and 21 districts and towns decided to implement the second round of admissions, and at the same time, stipulate the subjects allowed to register for admission in this phase. Registration is still carried out online at the city's primary admissions page. Regarding the announcement time of admission results for each phase, because each locality has its own characteristics in terms of student size and school allocation, parents should not have the mentality of "looking at each other" leading to impatience and anxiety, but need to follow the time frames prescribed in the primary admissions plan of the district, town and Thu Duc City.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the deadline for announcing the list of successful candidates for 5-year-old preschool, grade 1 and grade 6 admissions in localities is August 1, 2024.
