The race is organized by the Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Department of Tourism, to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2023) and National Day September 2.
The tournament includes 25 delegations with 650 athletes from Ho Chi Minh City and the following provinces/cities: An Giang, Binh Thuan, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Binh.
The teams compete in 6 categories, category A includes: 10-rower men's boat; 20-rower men's boat; 20-rower mixed men's and women's boat. Category B includes 10-rower men's boat; 20-rower men's boat; 20-rower mixed men's and women's boat.
The 500m race starts in a row from the foot of Ba Son Bridge to Pier No. 4 (Sign Language Flagpole).
Despite the hot weather, many people and tourists stood on the riverbank to cheer on the competing teams.
Within the framework of the festival, today, on the Saigon River, water sports activities and cultural, artistic and folk games are held at Bach Dang wharf.
At Pier No. 4 (Thu Ngu Flagpole), there will be a Sailing performance, a flying performance by jet board, flyboard, an artistic lighting performance of the high-altitude paragliding area...
The first Ho Chi Minh City River Festival in 2023 contributes to developing typical tourism products in the city, diversifying events and festivals serving people and tourists, and building the image of Ho Chi Minh City as a destination.
Taking her family out for a weekend trip to Bach Dang Wharf Park, Ms. Nguyen My Chau (living in Binh Thanh District) shared: "Although the weather is quite hot, the tourist activities here are extremely interesting, there are games that I have only seen on TV and now I get to witness in real life."
The Saigon River area between Thu Ngu Flagpole and Nha Rong Wharf is bustling with activity as the racing teams enter the race.
