At the trial held on September 27, defendant Truong My Lan (Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Van Thinh Phat) wanted to get back two bags that were confiscated by the authorities.
"When I was arrested, two albino Hermès handbags were confiscated. One I bought in Italy and the other was given to me by a Malaysian tycoon. These bags are not worth much, and I want to leave them to my children and grandchildren as souvenirs. Therefore, I would like the Trial Panel to consider allowing me to get these bags back," defendant Lan stated.
The Hermès bag model that Ms. Truong My Lan mentioned is the Birkin Himalaya bag model.
In addition to the Birkin Himalaya bag, in the luxury handbag industry there are also a number of designs with special looks, rare production and expensive prices.

Hermès Birkin and Kelly Himalaya
Buying a Himalayan Birkin bag at a Hermès retail store is almost impossible unless you are a very special customer to the brand.
The Himalaya Birkin comes in 25cm, 30cm and 35cm (bottom length) sizes. The 25cm size currently retails for between $45,000 and $65,000 at Hermès (prices may vary depending on country and local taxes), according to Sotheby's.
The Himalaya style was originally reserved for Birkin bags. To meet demand from collectors, Hermès released the Kelly Himalaya bag, but in very limited quantities.
The Kelly Himalaya bag comes in 25cm, 28cm and 32cm sizes. On the website of luxury handbag retailer SACLÀB, the Kelly Himalaya 28 bag is currently priced at 82,100 euros (2.2 billion VND).
Diamond-encrusted versions of the Birkin and Kelly bags are both rare and extremely expensive.
