Trump's plan?

Former President Trump has said several times that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, but has refused to provide details about his plan.

In a new report, two former advisers under the Trump administration (2017-2021) have submitted a plan to end the conflict. Accordingly, the US administration after Mr. Trump's re-election will issue an ultimatum to Ukraine, forcing the Kyiv government to sit at the negotiating table with Moscow. Refusal will result in the US stopping military aid to Ukraine.

At the same time, the US also warned Russia that any refusal to negotiate would result in Washington increasing its support for Ukraine, according to retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, one of two former national security advisers under President Trump, according to Reuters.

The other former adviser who authored the plan is Fred Fleitz, former Chief of Staff of the National Security Council from 2017 to 2021.

The Ukraine peace talks, according to the former advisers, had to be done quickly after Mr Trump was elected in November.

However, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung noted that only statements from the former president or authorized members are official.

In response to the report, the Kremlin said any peace plan proposed by the future Trump administration would have to address the current situation in Ukraine, but Russian President Vladimir Putin remains open to the possibility of dialogue, TASS reported.

The National Security Council at the White House affirmed that the administration of US President Joe Biden will not force Ukraine to negotiate with Russia.

According to Reuters, President Zelensky announced the appointment of Brigadier General Andriy Hnatov as commander of the Joint Forces Command of Ukraine, replacing Lieutenant General Yuriy Sodol, who has held the position since February this year.

The reason behind the decision to replace the general in mid-stream is unclear. However, the news of General Sodol's replacement came after Bohdan Krotevych, commander of the Azov Battalion, accused the general of causing major defeats for the army on the eastern front.

According to Ukrainska Pravda , a criminal case has been opened against Mr. Sodol and Mr. Krotevych is ready to testify.

Nikvesti media agency said the entire eastern front was under General Sodol's responsibility but he faced accusations of not providing enough combat equipment for soldiers, leading to losses.

It is unclear how much Ukraine lost in military operations during General Sodol's tenure as commander in charge of the eastern front.

In another development, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague (Netherlands) announced on June 25 that it had issued arrest warrants for Russian Commander-in-Chief Valery Gerasimov and former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, currently Secretary of the Russian National Security Council.

According to AFP, the ICC judges said there was reason to suspect that General Gerasimov and former Defense Minister Shoigu were responsible for Russian missile attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure from at least October 10, 2022 to at least March 9, 2023. These attacks are said to have affected civilians.

EU launches talks to admit Ukraine

Luxembourg is the place where negotiations on Ukraine's possible accession to the EU begin.

On June 25, the European Union (EU) opened negotiations to consider the possibility of admitting Ukraine while the conflict with Russia continues.

Speaking online at the Luxembourg conference, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal called this a historic moment and a big step for both Kyiv and the EU towards a common future.

The meeting in Luxembourg is more symbolic than the expected lengthy and difficult negotiations before Ukraine can join the EU.

"The future of Ukraine is in the hands of the Ukrainian people," Reuters quoted Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib of Belgium, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, adding that the EU always supports Ukraine's autonomy.

The journey to EU membership is expected to be challenging for candidate countries, as they must undertake extensive reforms if they are to meet EU standards on a range of issues, from anti-corruption policies, agricultural practices and customs regulations.

To be admitted, candidate countries need the approval of all 27 EU member states. One obstacle could come from Hungary, which maintains close ties with Russia.
