On March 11, 108 Central Military Hospital informed that recently it has received and treated many cases of maxillofacial trauma due to domestic accidents.
A typical example is female patient NTA (31 years old, in Hanoi) who was taken to the emergency room with severe maxillofacial trauma.
According to Ms. A. and her family, she had an accident while taking photos at the Red River rock beach. Due to the slippery road surface, the patient slipped and hit her stomach and face hard on a rock.
At the hospital, Ms. A. was diagnosed with multiple injuries including grade 3 liver rupture, grade 3 right kidney rupture, closed chest trauma, and lower jaw fracture.
According to Dr. Le Diep Linh - Head of the Craniofacial Surgery Department at 108 Central Military Hospital - maxillofacial trauma due to domestic accidents is a common injury, especially during the rainy season and humid weather.
These accidents leave many sequelae such as affecting chewing function and aesthetics due to bad scars and facial deformities if not treated promptly. Therefore, with maxillofacial injuries in general, patients need first aid and proper treatment at medical facilities with maxillofacial specialties after the accident.
Doctor Khanh Ly - Craniofacial Surgery Department, 108 Central Military Hospital - recommends first aid for patients:
For people with facial trauma and bleeding, temporary hemostasis is extremely necessary. After that, the patient needs to be taken immediately to a reputable medical facility for further monitoring and treatment.
After an injury, many patients will feel dizzy, in this situation you should let them rest, limit movement. It is best to place the patient with their head low in a large, airy space.
If you find a patient suffocating due to maxillofacial trauma, try to clear their airway. This is a way to increase the patient's survival rate and limit the occurrence of bad complications.
