The American International School of Vietnam (AISVN) announced that it will reopen tomorrow, students can go to class, but "there will still be unavoidable disruptions".
The information was stated in a letter sent to parents on the evening of March 18 by the American International School Vietnam.
"The school will resume operations tomorrow (March 19), in the interests of all current students. Teaching and learning will still have unavoidable disruptions this week. The school will promptly resolve urgent issues so that teaching and learning can return to normal as soon as possible," the school's letter read.
Responding to VnExpress on the evening of March 18, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of AISVN, said the decision was made after the school worked with the city's Department of Education and Training.
Explaining that teaching and learning will be disrupted, Ms. Em said that she has encouraged teachers to return to school but does not rule out the possibility that some will still be absent. The school does not yet know exactly how many teachers will return tomorrow.
Today, about 1,400 students at the American International School Vietnam had to stay home from school. The day before, the school held a parent meeting, saying that 95% of teachers did not show up to teach on Monday because salaries and insurance had not been paid. The reason is that the school is facing financial difficulties.
Mr. Hoang Hung, a parent of a 6th grader, expressed doubts about the school's teaching in the context of personnel and financial turmoil.
"Tomorrow morning, I will send my child to school, but the problem is whether there will be teachers or not, and what the quality of teaching is like. Parents and students are put in a situation where they have no choice," said Mr. Hung.

AISVN was established in 2006. By the end of 2023, the school will have more than 1,400 students, 200 foreign teachers, and 300 domestic staff. Tuition fees here are 280-350 million VND per year for preschool, 450-500 million VND for primary school, and the highest is 600-725 million VND for secondary school.
In September 2023, many parents gathered to demand debt from the American International School Vietnam. These parents said they lent the school tens of billions of dong without interest so that their children could study for free, but by the time their children graduated, they still had not received any repayment.
The Department of Education and Training then required non-public schools and international schools to separate business and professional activities. Schools only collect regular tuition fees and are not allowed to sign joint ventures, contribute capital, or mobilize capital. Private and international schools are only allowed to collect tuition fees for one school year and are not allowed to combine exams for multiple semesters or years.
