According to Siamsport , Mr. Yimkarun sent his resignation letter to the president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Somyot Poompanmoung on May 18 to take responsibility for the unfortunate incident. As the highest leader of the U.22 Thailand team at the SEA Games, Mr. Yimkarun said that he did not fulfill his responsibilities and could not control the excessive behavior of the team members.
Yuttana Yimkarun announced: “U.22 Thailand must accept defeat by U.22 Indonesia, there is no excuse. We made a mistake and did not complete the goal of winning the 32nd SEA Games. The players and some members who participated in the fight with the other team were also wrong, when they could not control their emotions well.”
Mr. Yimkarun said he resigned because he did not fulfill his responsibilities at the 32nd SEA Games.
According to the Daily News, although Mr. Yuttana Yimkarun resigned, he still has another role at FAT as Vice President. On the afternoon of May 18, FAT is expected to hold a meeting with the coaching staff of U.22 Thailand about the 32nd SEA Games. In this meeting, the scuffle between U.22 Thailand and U.22 Indonesia players will be considered the focus. The image of Thai football has been seriously affected by the scuffle over the past 2 days.
Mr. Yimkarun (left) will still hold the position of Vice President of FAT.
In the match, a total of 7 red cards were issued by the Omani referee. A total of 3 Thai players and 2 members of the U.22 Thailand coaching staff received red cards and were asked to leave their positions in the final match of the 32nd SEA Games. Many Thai newspapers called the match between the two teams no different from a martial arts match in which the players and coaching staff of the two teams played the role of martial artists.
FAT affirmed that officials and members of the coaching staff will be the ones to bear the highest responsibility for this shameful defeat. In the announcement on May 17, FAT wrote: “The coaching staff must bear the highest responsibility. They are considered the ones who must maintain a good image, representing the country. They must be aware of that at every moment, keeping calm under the high pressure of the match. There will be severe punishment, no cover-up for those who cause this damage.”
