Foreign Language School changes the entrance exam for grade 6

Instead of having two multiple choice and essay tests, from next year, Foreign Language Secondary School will organize three tests, extend the test time and double the English subject.

Foreign Language Secondary School (University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) announced on November 25 that the entrance exam for grade 6, school year 2024-2025, consists of three parts: Math - Natural Sciences, Vietnamese - Social Sciences and English.

Each combination test has 12 questions, the test time is 40 minutes, the English test is longer with 22 questions, lasting 50 minutes. The admission score is the total score of the three tests, in which English is multiplied by a factor of two. The maximum score is 40.

Currently, the Foreign Language Secondary School's competency assessment test consists of two parts: multiple choice (50 minutes) and essay (50 minutes). The multiple choice part includes Natural Sciences and Mathematics (10 points), Social Sciences and Vietnamese (10 points), and English (20 points). The essay part includes Mathematics (10 points), Vietnamese (10 points), and English (20 points).

Thus, compared to the present, the structure of the entrance exam for grade 6 of the Foreign Language Specialized School has been changed, the test time has been increased by 30 minutes. The English score is also more focused on due to the doubling of this subject.

According to the school, the exam content is based on the primary school curriculum, mainly in the grade 5 curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training, ensuring four levels: recognition, understanding, low-level application and high-level application.

Ngoai Ngu Secondary School was established in April 2019. In the first enrollment of grade 6, the school recruited 100 students but received 3,000 applications, causing the competition ratio to reach 1/30, on average, for every 30 students taking the exam, only one was admitted.

By 2022, the school will increase its enrollment quota to 150, and the competition ratio will decrease to 1/16. However, this is still the highest competition ratio for grade 6 among schools that organize entrance exams nationwide.
