(Dan Tri) - Many changes were announced in the 10th grade enrollment notice of 4 specialized high schools in Hanoi.
High School for Natural Sciences increases exam subjects, eliminates direct admission
The 2025 10th grade entrance exam of the High School for Natural Sciences will include an additional subject of English. In previous years, candidates only took two general subjects: literature and math. In which, literature only counted for conditional points, not for admission.
However, this year, the leading university specializing in natural sciences requires candidates to take an additional English test. Similar to literature, English is not counted in the admission score. Candidates need to achieve a minimum score of 4 in each subject.
Another change is that the school stopped directly admitting candidates who won first prize in provincial-level excellent students after several years of implementation. The school's only admission method is entrance exams.

High School for Social Sciences and Humanities increased from 1 to 4 exam subjects
After a year of testing using only one entrance exam, the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities changed its method, increasing the number of entrance exams to four.
Candidates must take three general subjects: math, literature, English and a specialized subject. Math and English are only counted for conditional scores, not for admission.
To be eligible for admission, candidates need to achieve a minimum of 4 points/general subject and 6 points/specialized subject.
Foreign Language High School completely changes exam subjects
Similar to the two schools mentioned above, candidates taking the entrance exam to the Foreign Language Specialized High School this year will take 4 exams including math, literature, English and a specialized subject. The number of exams will increase by 1 but the number of subjects will decrease significantly as there will no longer be natural sciences and social sciences like previous years.
However, 100% of candidates must take the English test.
For specialized subjects, candidates take a 90-minute multiple-choice test combined with an essay.
The Foreign Language School has a record short exam time, wrapped up in one day, June 1.
High School for the Gifted, University of Education changes the way of calculating admission scores
The National University of Education High School for the Gifted also added English as a conditional subject in this year's entrance exam. Thus, the total number of exams increased from 3 to 4, including general math, general literature, general English and specialized subjects.
Notably, the school has 3 ways to calculate admission scores, instead of applying the same formula as usual.
For the specialized exam group of math, IT, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, the admission score is the total score of general math and specialized subject multiplied by coefficient 2. Literature and English scores are only conditional scores.
Similarly, for the literature group, the admission score is the sum of the general literature score and the specialized literature score multiplied by a coefficient of 2.
For the English specialized exam group, the admission score is the sum of general English and specialized English multiplied by coefficient 2.
To be eligible for admission, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 3.5/10 in all subjects.
