Putting the above pumped storage hydropower plant into operation is of great significance in ensuring the safe and stable operation of the Liaoning power grid, promoting the consumption of new energy and optimizing the power source of China's Northeast power grid.
A pumped storage hydroelectric plant is a hydroelectric plant that uses electrical energy during low load periods to pump water to an upper reservoir, then releases the water to a lower reservoir to generate electricity during peak load periods.

Qingyuan Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant is located in Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province, and is a national key large-scale energy project in China. The project has a total investment of 10.9 billion yuan, a total installed capacity of 1.8 million kW, and six reversible pumped water turbine generators with a capacity of 300,000 kW each, and an annual designed power generation capacity of 3 billion kW/h.
Mr. Vuong The Tho, Head of Operation Department of Liaoning Qingyuan Pumped Storage Hydropower Company: “The Qingyuan Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant is being urgently installed. It is planned to be fully operational by March 2025. At that time, this hydropower plant will improve the efficiency of combining with renewable energy sources such as nuclear power, wind power and solar power from the Northeast to the East, providing power to promote Liaoning to achieve a comprehensive new breakthrough.”
It is known that the remaining 5 units of Thanh Nguyen pumped storage hydropower plant are still in the process of installation and trial operation, expected to be put into operation before March 2025. By then, this power plant can save 158,000 tons of standard coal and reduce 375,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
