Connecting to the grid the expanded Ialy Hydropower Plant, adding 233 million kWh/year

According to information from Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Unit 2 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project has been successfully connected to the grid.

This project was connected to the grid at 8:28 p.m. on December 13, completing 18 days ahead of schedule. The project, invested by EVN, is one of the national key projects, and construction began in mid-2021.

The Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project has a designed capacity of 360MW, including 2 units, and EVN has assigned the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) as the investor representative. Power Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 is the consulting unit for the project design in each phase.

The project was implemented in a difficult context, such as the COVID-19 outbreak, high material prices due to the impact of political conflicts in the world, slow site handover procedures...

However, many creative construction solutions have soon brought the project to completion and operation. Notably, the plan to simultaneously combine the rotors of Unit 1 and Unit 2, arrange the site to deploy 2 units in parallel, and organize 3 shifts a day, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

EVN said this is considered the "key" to speed up the progress of generating electricity from unit 2 right after generating electricity from unit 1, 18 days ahead of schedule and about 3 months shorter than usual.

When put into operation, the project will increase the power generation capacity of the national power system, especially during peak hours. From there, the project contributes to enhancing the economic operation of the entire system; making optimal use of the water resource capacity, increasing the average annual power generation output by about 233 million kWh/year.

The project also contributes to reducing _CO2 emissions; reducing the intensity and working time of existing generators, thereby extending the life of equipment and saving maintenance and repair costs.

Previously, on November 26, Unit 1 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project was successfully connected to the national grid, so the successful connection of Unit 2 18 days early helped increase electricity output.
