Typhoon Talim, China's fourth typhoon this year, is expected to make landfall in the country's southeast on the night of July 17. Fujian provincial authorities have activated a state of emergency response to the storm in the morning, according to Xinhua.
A total of 58 towns in 20 county-level regions in Fujian experienced rainfall exceeding 50 mm from the morning of July 16 to 17. By July 18, showers and thunderstorms will occur in most counties and cities in the province.
The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration on July 17 raised the flood alert level in four counties in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to red, the highest level. The agencies warned that these areas could experience flooding in mountainous areas from 8 p.m. on July 17 to 8 p.m. the following day.
The two agencies called for timely monitoring, flood warnings and disaster response readiness in flood-prone areas.
Meanwhile, the China National Meteorological Center forecasts that the storm will sweep across Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi Zhuang provinces. Typhoon Talim is expected to make landfall in the area from Dianbai County in Guangdong Province to Wenchang County in Hainan Province on the night of July 17.
The Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of China announced that it has deployed 11 rescue ships, five helicopters, 46 salvage ships and eight emergency rescue teams to be ready for duty as Typhoon Talim prepares to make landfall. Authorities said they will closely monitor the storm's progress and ensure timely handling of dangerous situations.
