On December 17, Cau Giay District Police (Hanoi) said they are investigating and verifying a case of impersonating a police officer to defraud and appropriate 300 million VND from a male student in the area.

Specifically, on December 13, Mr. L. (born 2006, in Cau Giay district) received a phone call from a person claiming to be a police officer informing him that he was involved in a criminal case.

The subject asked him to transfer money to a bank account to assist in the investigation. Because he did not understand the trick of impersonating a police officer to defraud, Mr. L. transferred 300 million VND to the subject. Later, when he discovered that he had been scammed, he went to the police station to report it.

From the above incident, Hanoi City Police recommends that people need to be vigilant, spread the word to relatives and friends about the above tricks, and avoid falling into the traps of bad guys.

To work with people, the police will send invitations, summonses or send them through the local police. The police will absolutely not call people to ask them to transfer money to their bank accounts or install software to serve the investigation.

When detecting cases with signs of fraud as above, people need to immediately report to the nearest police agency.

An old man in Hanoi almost lost 500 million VND because of a person impersonating a police officer. The police of Khuong Trung ward (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) just promptly prevented a fraud case of property appropriation, helping a 74-year-old man avoid losing 500 million VND.
