“We want to prove that Vietnamese intelligence can stand shoulder to shoulder with other countries in the world by developing products that meet the needs of millions of users worldwide,” said Mr. Phung Khac Huy - CEO of Ship60.
Aspiration to create a technology platform on par with advanced countries
After 7 years of experience developing technology for logistics and e-commerce companies in many developing countries, 8x programmer Phung Khac Huy realized that these countries started out like Vietnam, the components of the logistics infrastructure were quite separate, but they used technology and algorithms to optimize the operations of the logistics chain.
Realizing the opportunity to contribute to the country's development, in 2017, the young programmer and his colleagues researched and built the logtech (logistics technology) platform Ship60.
The partnership with Lazada helps Ship60 "stand on the shoulders of giants" to learn many good experiences to perfect products to meet market needs.
Despite having many advantages in terms of experience in developing technology platforms, in the early days of starting a business, Phung Khac Huy and the founders of Ship60 were still bewildered when the infrastructure and logistics problems in the Vietnamese market were completely different from those of developed countries, especially logistics for e-commerce - a field that was just beginning to take shape at that time. “A startup business when established faces many difficulties in terms of management experience, market research, sales and product development. Ship60 also could not avoid problems that arose as the scale of development grew larger and larger, serving more and more customers. The human resources team grew too quickly while the management model was still fragmented, without the necessary control, leading to overheating and risks such as financial loss and loss of customers. In particular, during the Covid-19 period, Ship60 encountered a crisis in its management model even though its products were still considered very good, meeting market demand," Mr. Huy recalled. Fortunately, with the support of experienced investors in the market such as VSV Capital and Mr. Han Ngoc Vu, Ship60 gradually stabilized its model, focused on the core strengths of the business, built a culture suitable for the team, and gradually overcame the difficult period. "I highly appreciate the role of investment funds/investors contributing to the development of technology startups in Vietnam. It can be said that Vietnamese technology startup founders are very good at technology, but also have many weaknesses in financial management, business management, product development that meets market needs... The support of investors is a very necessary piece for technology startup founders to avoid making mistakes, take advantage of the experience of predecessors to develop faster", Mr. Huy shared. Answering the question "what is the motivation/secret for you and your colleagues to overcome difficulties in the early days of starting a business", CEO Ship60 affirmed: "We have the aspiration to create a logistics technology platform on par with the products and models that developed countries are developing. This aspiration is nurtured every day, helping us overcome difficulties and failures". Integrating into the world's technology "flow" The Ship60 platform has been invested in and developed for 5 years, with the initial model being a shipping connection platform that solves delivery problems: Connecting a network of drivers and sorting warehouses to ensure same-day delivery, even goods reaching consumers in just 1-2 hours at the lowest cost. After that, the platform was developed to the level of connecting warehouses to process goods, sales platforms to solve the "problem" of the entire process for sellers: Centrally managing orders, warehouses and shipping on a single platform. "Ship60 uses technology and algorithms to route goods, digitize all products in the warehouse, helping sellers know immediately how many orders are left, which orders are overdue and need to be processed. Orders from sellers are centrally managed and automatically routed to the most suitable warehouses closest to the buyer for processing and fastest delivery. The Ship60 platform also helps synchronize orders from different sales channels so that sellers can easily track centralized orders, analyze sales indicators, and thereby have appropriate warehouse allocation strategies. All of these activities are completely automated," CEO Phung Khac Huy described the advantages of the logtech platform researched and deployed by the Ship60 team. Currently, Ship60's logtech platform provides cross-border fulfillment solutions for sellers in Vietnam and globally; manages goods in smart fulfillment centers; connects warehouses not only in Vietnam but also in other countries, making it easy to deploy the distribution of sellers' orders on a global scale. This model brings great benefits: Sellers in Vietnam have a global-scale distribution system available to help sell worldwide. When entering the Vietnamese market, international sellers already have a logistics technology infrastructure platform that can immediately meet distribution needs in Vietnam. This will contribute to making Vietnam a Logistics Hub of Southeast Asia and Asia. “In particular, smart technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence) and big data analysis help us analyze and predict consumer behavior, thereby helping to allocate sellers' orders in reasonable areas. Delivery time is reduced to only 1-2 hours and logistics costs are reduced by up to 40% when goods are placed in warehouses closest to buyers. This is also an advanced model that large corporations such as Amazon and Alibaba are investing in to meet the new trend of e-commerce,” Mr. Huy emphasized.Ship60's logtech platform provides both cross-border fulfillment solutions for sellers in Vietnam and globally.
According to Mr. Huy, Ship60 pays great attention to updating new trends in technology in the world, integrating with the "flow" of technology but not "dissolving". Technology is filtered, applied selectively, customized to solve the right "problem" of the market at each time. "As a product developer for the market, we do not blindly follow technology to beautify the product. We determine that life must be a "light" to illuminate technology and technology helps make life better. Therefore, we carefully research technologies such as AI, IoT (Internet of Things), Cloud (cloud computing), Mobility (mobile) ... not only for products supplied to the market but also in internal business processes. We have applied automation processes towards AI in administrative activities, even using technology to build financial accounting models for analysis to support business development. With these achievements, Ship60 has also been selected to participate in the global startup network Google for Startups initiated by Google to help startups grasp and master the most advanced technologies in the world", CEO Ship60 confided. With great efforts and the spirit of "CAN DO", Ship60 has won many awards on its development journey over the past 10 years. However, for the "captain" of Ship60, "Nhan Tai Dat Viet" is the award he is most proud of. This award was evaluated by a jury of leading experts in the industry, and was carefully organized. The experts' comments helped Ship60 perfect its products. And the spread of the Award has helped Ship60 have its first big customers. Expanding operations to the region and the world From the beginning, Ship60 was built with the goal of creating a global logistics network technology platform, helping sellers around the world handle the problem of goods reaching consumers in the fastest way. “Ship60 can absolutely develop regionally and globally like Uber and Grab, when Vietnam is considered a Technology Hub, and Vietnam's technology human resources are always at the top of the region. Up to now, our plan to reach the world is even more feasible, when Vietnam has established cooperative relations with most of the major powers, established comprehensive strategic partnerships with 6 countries (China, Russia, USA, Korea, India, Japan), and 18 countries have become strategic partners,” CEO Phung Khac Huy confidently stated. Now, Ship60 has won the trust and accompanied the construction of the logtech platform of many leading logistics enterprises in Korea, Taiwan (China)... The largest international customer of this Vietnamese enterprise is currently a large Japanese enterprise in the consumer goods industry. Ship60 supports them in logistics activities to distribute products to the Vietnamese market. Technological strength is an important factor in the process of Ship60 expanding its operations to the international market with the strategy of building a network connecting service providers in countries to build a sustainable global logistics network. In the coming time, Ship60 will focus on countries in the list of largest trade partners that have preferential trade agreements with Vietnam such as: the US, China, Japan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong (China) ... "I hope that in parallel with the trade agreements that countries have signed, there will also be preferential agreements for foreign enterprises when building branches in the host country, especially technology startups. Ship60 has received many invitations to preferential programs from countries such as Korea, Japan ... Along with that, departments/offices/sectors should also have trade exchanges with countries to create a bridge to introduce, connect, and shorten the time for Vietnamese enterprises to reach out globally", Mr. Huy recommended.Ship60 has been selected to join the global startup network Google for Startups initiated by Google.
“Proving that Vietnamese intelligence can stand shoulder to shoulder with other countries in the world by developing products that meet the needs of millions of users worldwide, thereby stimulating the flow of trade between Vietnam and other countries and vice versa” is the greatest desire of the General Director of Ship60 and his associates. “Never a failure! All is a challenge” – the autobiography of Chung Ju Yung, founder and late Chairman of Hyundai Group, with great lessons about aspiration and courage for each individual – is a book that has had a great impact and influence on the thinking and career development journey of Phung Khac Huy. Before ending the story, the 8x General Director added a few words: “I always believe that in life, we cannot avoid falling, but each fall will be a valuable lesson if we know how to stand up. Learning how to stand up after each fall can be the hardest lesson, but if we learn it, it will be a solid foundation throughout our lives and careers, helping us to constantly develop our thinking, improve ourselves, and move towards greater success.Vietnamnet.vn
