Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant currently supplies about 35% of the country's gasoline and oil demand, contributing revenue to import-export taxes to help Thanh Hoa join the group of provinces and cities with a budget revenue of 50,000 billion VND/year.

Social responsibility of billion dollar project NSRP gives Tet gifts to people in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024.

Having a regional-scale petrochemical refinery present in Thanh Hoa today, in addition to the efforts of authorities and businesses at all levels, is a great sacrifice of thousands of people who have given up their "hometowns" and production land for the project of the century. In response to that gratitude, right from the beginning of construction and during the operation process, Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited (NSRP) has always focused on implementing many practical activities, demonstrating responsibility to the community and gratitude to the people of the project area.

To have a site for the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant, over 500 hectares of land including agricultural land and residential land in 4 communes and wards: Hai Yen, Mai Lam, Nguyen Binh, Tinh Hai in Nghi Son town have been recovered. Of which, Hai Yen commune, Tinh Hai and Mai Lam wards have land recovered for the construction of the plant site and Nguyen Binh ward has agricultural land recovered to build a resettlement area for about 1,500 households that need to be relocated from Hai Yen commune.

With the aim of supporting the affected community in general and resettled people in particular, from 2014 to now, NSRP has spent about 300 billion VND to carry out many community support activities to help restore, develop livelihoods, improve and enhance the quality of life in a sustainable way and achieve many practical results such as vocational skills training support programs, job connections for about 2,000 people trained in vocational skills (construction, welding, scaffolding, pipe installation, gardening, restaurants, hotels...). Along with that, the company also actively implements job search skills support and job referrals, job connections.

According to the representative of NSRP, aiming to improve the income and quality of life of people in the project-affected areas, the company pays special attention to creating livelihoods for people. Therefore, the company has implemented a job connection support program. Accordingly, about 4,000 people have been introduced to job opportunities, of which about 1,000 people have been successfully connected to jobs.

Along with that, the vocational training program by NSRP has organized many training courses on vocational skills suitable for the development situation of Nghi Son Economic Zone for the people. About 2,000 people have been trained in cooking, gardening, reception, housekeeping... to be able to work at restaurants and hotels such as Anh Phat Hotel, Nghi Son Hotel... Many others have been supported with vocational training in construction, welding, scaffolding, pipeline installation... to be able to work at companies such as Lilama 10, Lilama 18, PTSC Thanh Hoa...

In terms of health and safety support, the company has provided screening for about 13,000 people and students; improved knowledge of hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention for 45,000 people; improved knowledge and skills in traffic safety for 18,000 people; and improved first aid and emergency response skills for 9,000 people.

With educational support and scholarship activities, over 1,500 scholarships with a total value of over 7 billion VND have been awarded; about 200 teachers and tens of thousands of students have been supported to improve their English, life skills and IT skills; and swimming skills and drowning prevention training for over 1,000 students.

The company also supports micro-level business development for about 2,000 people to improve their micro-small business capacity and personal and household financial management skills; supports 900 households to improve their agricultural production skills, benefit from agricultural initiatives and hundreds of hectares of abandoned land are renovated and put into exploitation to help people improve their income. With this program, NSRP has organized many training courses and seminars to improve business capacity for households affected by the project that are doing business or want to start a business. At the same time, the program also conducts many consulting activities, direct advice for each household and connects these households to the market.

The unit also provides infrastructure support by participating in supporting the repair and construction of many community works such as cultural houses, schools, etc.; supporting the connection and installation of clean water pipes with a total length of about 74km to about 3,000 households in Mai Lam ward, Tinh Hai and Bac Yen village (Hai Yen commune).

In particular, NSRP is currently the first enterprise in the country to implement a program to support the establishment and development of intergenerational self-help clubs. This is a model to support community development in a humane, sustainable and effective way through raising awareness for club members; providing health care; promoting cultural, artistic and sports activities; providing capital support, transferring science and technology, and caring for the elderly in difficult circumstances...

To date, NSRP has supported the establishment of 25 intergenerational self-help clubs in 4 affected communes and wards: Mai Lam, Hai Yen, Nguyen Binh, Tinh Hai, of which the resettlement area of Hai Yen commune has 5 clubs. The first clubs were established in 2016, supported stable operation and handed over to the association of the elderly and local authorities in 2019. Currently, 25 clubs are still operating stably, contributing to improving the quality of spiritual life, material life, security and health for people in these communities, which are highly appreciated by people and authorities.

Chairman of Hai Yen Commune People's Committee Tran Van Hung shared: "As the commune with the largest number of households that have given up land to build Nghi Son Oil Refinery, up to now, the lives of the people in the new resettlement area have stabilized and are "changing" every day. Vocational training, job conversion, and job introduction activities have been successfully connected by businesses, so up to now, 2,000/5,000 workers in the commune have been working for Nghi Son Oil Refinery, Nghi Son Port, Annora Shoe Factory... The remaining workers have been trained in business and small trade. Most of the workers in the commune have jobs and income, the quality of people's lives is increasingly improved and people are very excited about their current life".

NSRP representative said that in the coming time, the company will continue to support activities for society and the community, especially maintaining the gift giving to policy families, poor households, and poor students who overcome difficulties on holidays and Tet, strengthening the connection between businesses and people. NSRP believes that people in the project area are a part of the success of the company and will continue to benefit from NSRP's social and community activities.
