TPO - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed investing in the construction of a 5.9 km long connecting road from the Go Cong intersection on Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 to Hanoi Highway (now Vo Nguyen Giap Street).

The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City has just sent a document reporting to the City People's Committee on the results of reviewing the connection of expressways.

According to the Department of Transport, within the scope of the Ring Road 3 project in Thu Duc City (about 14.73 km long), there is currently only one grade-separated intersection (Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway intersection) and one exit and entrance to Ring Road 3, which is the Long Binh ICD port area, along with Tan Van intersection (Binh Duong province).

“In order to facilitate traffic connection and urban development of Thu Duc City in the future, especially to serve the travel needs of people on both sides of Ring Road 3, it is very necessary to study and add more connection points in Thu Duc City” - the Department of Transport stated in the document.

From there, the Department of Transport proposed to arrange 4 branches to and from the expressway at the front and back of the entrance and exit of Ring Road 3 and Phuoc Thien Road (Thu Duc City), each branch is about 250m long and 7m wide.

The area of the intersection parallel to Phuoc Thien Street is arranged with a 60m diameter roundabout to organize traffic in the U-turn area, turning left/right onto Ring Road 3. At the same time, build an underpass on Phuoc Thien Street with a scale of 4 lanes for 2-way traffic to organize traffic in the area; build Phuoc Thien Street according to the planning scale, about 1,800m long. Investment cost is about 2,108 billion VND.

Regarding the form of investment, the Department of Transport proposed to supplement and adjust the design of component project 1 of the investment project to build Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, of which the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is the managing agency.

The investment will be implemented in the current phase along with the progress of the investment phase of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.

In addition, the Department of Transport also proposed to invest in completing the Go Cong traffic junction and the branch connecting from Hanoi Highway (now Vo Nguyen Giap Street) to the Go Cong intersection on Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3.

Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City will invest in building a 5.9 km long connecting road to Ring Road 3 (from Go Cong intersection to Hanoi Highway). The first phase of the route (from Go Cong intersection to Le Van Viet Street) will be cleared with a width of 67 m, with intersections according to the planning; the two-way road will be built, each with 4 lanes and a cross-section of 19.75 m (leaving 27.5 m in the middle to reserve for future expansion). At the same time, the overpass at Le Van Viet intersection and Go Cong intersection will be built. The total initial investment is about 8,500 billion VND.

"After the Project is approved, the City will direct specialized agencies to prepare a Pre-Feasibility Study Report to submit to competent authorities for investment policy decision and investment implementation in the period of 2024-2027" - said the Department of Transport.

In addition to the above projects, the Department of Transport also proposed to build connecting roads to Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 such as the new Northwest route (including connecting roads and intersections); the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road connecting Ring Road 3 which is being studied for pre-feasibility; and Vo Van Kiet road extending to Ring Road 3.
