Viet Tri City and Doan Hung and Phu Ninh districts proactively prepare plans to ensure safety when Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir discharges floodwaters.

At 2:00 p.m. on August 28, Thac Ba Hydropower Reservoir opened two floodgates. Pursuant to Document No. 6365/BNN-DD dated August 28, 2024 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on ensuring downstream safety when operating Thac Ba Hydropower Reservoir, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) issued a document on proactive plans to ensure downstream safety when Thac Ba Hydropower Reservoir discharges floodwaters.

Accordingly, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Doan Hung, Phu Ninh districts and Viet Tri city is requested to strictly implement the contents. Closely monitor the forecasts, warnings of rain and floods and information on reservoir discharge; promptly inform communes, wards, towns, people, investors, units with works under construction, owners of water transport vehicles, ferry terminals, cage fish farming households, production and business activities of mineral exploitation on rivers and riverbanks about the information on the discharge of floodwater from Thac Ba hydropower reservoir to proactively take preventive and response measures.

Review flood control plans to ensure safety downstream, especially key dike points, landslide areas or areas at risk of riverbank landslides, and residential areas concentrated on riverbanks; prepare human resources, materials, and means to prevent floods, ensuring absolute safety for people and property.

Direct the clearing, cleaning and sanitation of culverts under the dike, regularly check the operation of culverts under the dike and pumping stations to ensure timely flood prevention and drainage to protect production. Organize serious on-duty shifts, ensure communication, proactively direct the handling of situations and promptly report to the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue.

Phu Tho State-owned Irrigation Works Exploitation Company proactively relocated field pumping stations along the river to ensure safety and prepared a plan to pump floodwaters in case of heavy rains causing flooding.
