According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the department will pilot digital citizenship skills education for primary school students from the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year.
Specifically, each district will have two primary schools implementing the digital citizenship skills education program. By the 2024-2025 school year, this program will be deployed in 100% of primary schools in the city.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that digital citizenship skills education helps form and develop 5 components of IT competency for students. These are:
Using and managing information and communication technology; Behaving appropriately in the digital environment; Solving problems with the support of information and communication technology; Applying information and communication technology in learning and self-learning; Collaborating in the digital environment through content topics.
The Department also requires teachers to combine and directly develop three common competencies for students when teaching: autonomy and self-study, communication and cooperation, problem solving and creativity.
In addition, the department also guides schools to apply active teaching methods in the process of educating digital citizenship skills.
In particular, teachers are encouraged to use project-based learning methods to promote students' teamwork, self-study ability and initiative; Students are required not only to propose solutions to problems but also to verify the effectiveness of the solutions through digital products.
