Ho Chi Minh City: More outbreaks of dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease discovered

On the afternoon of June 11, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC), in week 23 (as of June 9), Ho Chi Minh City recorded 9 cases of measles.

The cumulative number of confirmed measles cases up to week 23 is 16 positive cases.

Notably, in week 23, the city recorded 10 new dengue fever outbreaks in 9 wards and communes in 7/22 districts and Thu Duc city. The total number of outbreaks treated with chemical spraying during the week was 23 and no wards or communes treated large-scale outbreaks.

There were a total of 67 mosquito larvae eradication campaigns at outbreak areas and risk areas in 51 wards and communes in 13/22 districts and Thu Duc city.

In week 23 alone, the entire city recorded 4 new hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks, including 2 school outbreaks and 2 community outbreaks.

The cumulative number of hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks up to week 23 of 2024 is 167, including 112 school outbreaks and 55 community outbreaks. To date, there are 6 outbreaks under monitoring (4 school outbreaks and 2 community outbreaks).

68.75% of measles cases have not been vaccinated

According to HCDC, the number of measles cases in Ho Chi Minh City is distributed in 4/22 districts including Binh Tan (8 cases), Hoc Mon (5 cases), Binh Chanh (2 cases) and District 8 (1 case).

At the ward and commune level, 11/312 wards and communes have measles cases, including Le Minh Xuan and Vinh Loc B (Binh Chanh), An Lac, Binh Hung Hoa, Binh Hung Hoa B, Binh Tri Dong B, Tan Tao, Tan Tao A (Binh Tan), Ba Diem and Xuan Thoi Dong (Hoc Mon) and Ward 15 (District 8).

Of these 16 measles cases, 2 were under 9 months old, 8 were from 9 months to under 18 months old, 1 was from 18 months to under 24 months old, 4 were from 2 years old to under 5 years old, and 1 was under 15 years old. It is noteworthy that of the 16 cases, 11 (68.75%) had not been vaccinated against measles.
