HCM City Candidates taking the entrance exam for specialized 10th grade can only register for a maximum of 5 wishes, instead of 7 as before, according to the plan of the Department of Education and Training.
Explaining this adjustment, a representative of the Department said on January 5 that from the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling non-specialized classes in specialized schools according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Therefore, the Department will adjust the number and method of registration to suit the reality.
Specifically, candidates taking the 10th grade exam this year can still register up to three wishes for public high schools teaching the general program (regular wishes). Admission is based on the order of registration of wishes, in which the standard score for wish 2 is not lower than wish 1, wish 3 is not lower than wish 2.
Candidates who want to take the entrance exam for specialized schools will be able to register for two more options, instead of four as before. For the first option, candidates can register for Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools. For the second option, in addition to these two schools, candidates can register for specialized classes at four other schools including Nguyen Huu Huan, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Mac Dinh Chi and Gia Dinh High Schools.
If taking the integrated 10th grade entrance exam, in addition to the three regular choices, candidates have two more integrated choices. Candidates who register for the specialized exam will not be allowed to take the integrated exam and vice versa.
Thus, a candidate can register up to 5 wishes.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City continues to allow students to register their 10th grade entrance exam preferences online. The Department recommends that students choose schools near their residence to avoid being admitted but not enrolling because their home is far away. Students are not allowed to change their preferences after the adjustment period and after the admission results are available.
The 2024 entrance exam for public grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to take place in early June with three compulsory subjects. Of which, Math and Literature last 120 minutes, Foreign Language lasts 90 minutes. Candidates for specialized and integrated grade 10 will take an additional specialized and integrated subject exam with a duration of 150 minutes. The Department of Education and Training said the exam structure is similar to every year, emphasizing the candidates' ability to solve practical problems.
From January to April, the Department will provide admission counseling for grade 10 students at their current school, with the participation of public and non-public high schools, Department specialists, and psychological consultants.
In addition, the Department has changed the entire process of considering public 10th grade entrance exam applications to avoid the situation where many schools do not have enough enrollment quotas, while some candidates with high scores fail all their applications.
