The city has a new inter-level school, separated from Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
The school separation plan was approved by the City People's Committee two days ago, after a working session with leaders of the Department of Education and Training.
Accordingly, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted continues to operate under the model of a specialized school, located in An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City. Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School is organized and operates under the charter of a general school with many levels, located in District 1.
The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to develop the project and report in April. The project needs to have a specific roadmap, address issues related to personnel, finance, and expertise, and ensure that the two schools operate effectively, maintaining tradition and quality.

Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted was established and enrolled students for junior high school and high school in 2000. After two years, the school was converted into a specialized school, with its main campus located in Ben Nghe ward, District 1 and its second campus in An Khanh ward, Thu Duc city.
The school currently has 62 classes at the secondary level with more than 2,170 students; 44 classes at the high school level (specialized and non-specialized) with about 1,360 students.
Each year, Tran Dai Nghia High School recruits more than 500 sixth graders through an English proficiency test. The number of applications to the school is about 3,000-4,000.
The change in the model of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted originated from the Ministry of Education and Training requesting Hanoi to direct the enrollment of grade 6 students at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in accordance with regulations, at the end of February. The reason is that the Law on Education stipulates that specialized schools only exist at the high school level. The model of junior high school in specialized schools is not covered by any legal regulations.
In a document sent to the Ministry of Education and Training on March 12, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said it would change the model of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted to comply with the law, but recommended allowing enrollment in grade 6 this year to avoid causing disruption.
