Speaking after a cabinet meeting on September 30, President Erdogan said the United Nations General Assembly should recommend the use of force under a resolution the organization passed in 1950, if the UN Security Council fails to stop Israel's attacks, according to Reuters.
The United Nations General Assembly's Uniting for Peace Resolution of 1950 stated that the organization could intervene if disagreements among the five permanent members of the Security Council (Britain, the United States, Russia, France and China) prevented them from maintaining international peace.

The Security Council is the only body of the United Nations that can make legally binding decisions such as approving the use of force or imposing sanctions. These decisions cannot be passed if a council member vetoes them.
Mr. Erdogan said he was sad to see Muslim countries not taking a more positive and proactive stance towards Israel. The leader called on countries to launch economic, diplomatic and political measures to pressure Israel to accept a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
"For the peace of all people in our region, from Muslims to Jews to Christians, we call on the international community and the Muslim world to take action," the Turkish president said, warning that Israel could target Muslim countries if not stopped soon.
Israel has not commented on Erdogan’s statements. It is still conducting operations in the Gaza Strip and has just sent ground forces into Lebanon to fight Hezbollah after days of airstrikes.
