The phone call with the Ukrainian president came shortly after Mr Trump's conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Later on the Telegram channel, Mr. Zelensky said about the content of the phone call, mainly talking about ending the conflict, the opportunity to achieve peace, about Ukraine's technological capabilities, including UAV capabilities and other modern production.
Mr. Zelensky revealed that Mr. Trump had informed President Putin about the content of the previous phone call. The Ukrainian President affirmed that Ukraine wants peace more than anyone else and is working with the United States to determine “common steps to stop Russian aggression” and ensure a lasting and stable peace.
Mr. Zelensky informed that the two sides also mentioned the new agreement on security and economic cooperation as well as cooperation on resources discussed with US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessant, who is visiting Kiev. The two sides agreed to continue to contact and meet.
Also on February 12, in a conversation with reporters at the White House, US President Donald Trump said that he would have his first meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia.
The statement came as the White House chief sought to push for an end to Moscow's special military campaign in neighboring Ukraine that has lasted nearly three years.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump affirmed: "We will meet in Saudi Arabia."
The move came just hours after Mr Trump said the two leaders had spoken by phone and agreed to immediately begin peace talks on Ukraine - an extraordinary thaw in relations between the two powers that could leave Ukraine feeling abandoned.
Mr Trump hailed the call as “lengthy and highly productive”, in which the two leaders agreed to meet to resolve the deep freeze in bilateral relations since the Ukraine conflict broke out in 2022.
The Kremlin said the call lasted nearly an hour and a half and the two sides agreed that "it was time to cooperate".
