At a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, President Joko Widodo asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to support the completion of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, promote investments by the Canada Pension Service focused on the development of the new capital city of Nusantara, and find a mechanism to fund a feasibility study for a “greenfield” project in Indonesia.
In addition, the Indonesian President wants Canada to promote efforts to realize the development of a green airport in North Kalimantan province; a rare earth exploration and processing project; and the establishment of a bilateral task force.
Mr. Jokowi praised the support of G7 countries, including Canada, in supporting Indonesia's energy transition.
“I hope the $20 billion in support can be realized immediately but not in the form of loans,” the President affirmed.
Regarding food security, Mr. Jokowi encouraged the implementation of an agreement between Indonesian state-owned enterprises and Canadian trade groups regarding the supply of potash and wheat.
The two leaders also discussed ASEAN-related issues, including the situation in Myanmar. President Jokowi announced that the ASEAN-Canada Summit will be held in September in Indonesia on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
"See you in Jakarta," said Mr. Jokowi.
