TPO - Contractors are still working hard to speed up the construction of pedestrian bridges connecting the elevated stations of metro line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien. To date, two bridges have been completed, and three bridges will be completed in May 2024.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board said that it has completed the girder lofting at 5/9 pedestrian bridges connecting metro line 1. Of which, 2 pedestrian bridges at the High-Tech Park station and Binh Thai station have been completely completed.

With the remaining 3 pedestrian bridges completed, the remaining girders at Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long and Tan Cang stations are also expected to be completed in May 2024.

For the 4 pedestrian bridges under construction at Thao Dien, An Phu, Thu Duc and National University stations, the investor is actively coordinating with contractors and consultants to develop a detailed plan to speed up the construction progress, striving to complete the project on time with the overall progress of the project, and put the project into operation in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board added that the pedestrian bridges are designed with a unique U-beam structure, made up of 2 single beams (weight from 46 - 75 tons/beam), with a total length of each bridge from 80-150m, divided into small spans and segments from 30-35m.

These pedestrian bridges not only facilitate people to connect to metro line 1 stations conveniently and safely, but also serve as the main escape route in case of an emergency.

In the coming time, the units agreed to add more human resources and construction teams to the locations where the site has been handed over and construction permits have been granted.

Along with that, we need to strengthen the organization of day and night construction; shorten the leave days and holidays of engineers and contractor workers, and prioritize project work.

The pedestrian bridge architecture is designed similar to the main station structure with a steel dome and heat-resistant roofing panels. Along both sides of the bridge are flower beds and trees, combined with natural ventilation, creating a comfortable feeling for passengers when approaching the station.

Metro Line 1 has a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20 km long from Ben Thanh (District 1) to Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City), and has currently reached 98% of the workload.
