Nguyen Thuy Linh missed the chance to make history when she regrettably stopped at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
After defeating Tiffany Ho, Nguyen Thuy Linh has the opportunity to become the first Vietnamese female tennis player to advance to the group stage at an Olympic tournament. Thuy Linh's competitor for the ticket to the next round is Beiwen Zhang (USA, ranked 11th in the world). In 2023, Thuy Linh met Beiwen Zhang at the Finland Open badminton tournament. The Vietnamese tennis player won with a score of 2-1. However, Beiwen Zhang showed great progress in 2024 before meeting Thuy Linh again at the Paris Olympics.

Against a higher-ranked opponent, Thuy Linh played evenly and created a race in terms of points. However, in the decisive situation, Beiwen Zhang did better to win the first set with a score of 22-20.

A similar scenario occurred in game 2 when Thuy Linh had many good shots but her mistakes caused the Vietnamese player to lose points. The second game was dramatic and once again, Beiwen Zhang did better in the decisive situation to win with a score of 22-20. With a 2-0 victory, Beiwen Zhang topped Group K, thereby winning a ticket to the next round. Although Thuy Linh could not make history, she had an impressive performance when playing fairly with a higher-rated opponent. After Thuy Linh, Vietnamese badminton still has hope named Le Duc Phat. Winning the opening match, Duc Phat will compete directly for a ticket to the round of 16 with tennis player Prannoy (India) at 0:30 on August 1.
